Dear @Discount Tire, is this true? Any additional information you can share?

From someone else’s social media post- Perhaps I've missed it, and apologies if I have, but I found this interesting. I buy my tires (20" AT) from Discount Tire, and have all my rotate/balance work done there ... Today was my first service on my new set of tires and I noticed they are only jacking up one side at a time, when only a month ago for the new shoes, they had all four corners jacked up... When I asked how they intend to do a crossover rotation, I was informed "Discount Tire is no longer simultaneously jacking up all 4 tires on Rivian vehicles due to several incidents nationwide where the vehicles fell off their jacks"... does this mean (if we prefer cross vehicle rotations) we have to pay the ridiculous rotate and balance fees Rivian charges?!

I recall where one or two Rivians have been damaged by third party lifts. I only allow mine to be lifted one side at a time for safety.

Could buy a matching spare and then do 5 tire rotations. I do this in my driveway with a single jack. As a bonus you'll get 25% more life out of your tires.

Doesn't that mean the tires on either side are not worn at the same level? Seems like if you rotate the spare in, you should rotate more frequently. Just a thought - no experience to back that up.

Just had my tires rotated at Discount Tire, all corners lifted as usual.

You won’t get an answer. They stopped following and engaging long ago; almost as soon as they started. And more than one or two have been damaged. It really depends on location and which employees. And reward cross is the rotation pattern recommended by Rivian.

Ironically, I'm at Discount Tire right now for my 7500 mile rotation. I'll watch and see what they do.
My Rivian is in now and I see they are just doing 1 side at a time.

With a 5 tire rotation, each tire gets a stint at each corner, so at each rotation some tires go front/back, and others go left/right.

And you spend 25% more on tires....
Total cost is a wash, without 5 tire rotation you buy them more often. All tires have to be replaced after 6 years anyway, even if they are only a spare, the rubber degrades/dry rots.

Last time I checked the cost of the hazard warranty at Discount, it was 25% per tire, so buying 5 and not getting the warranty is a break even.

Do temporary spares have to be replaced every six yrs? I've had many older cars with these and the spares looked great yet, even had to use a few that were definitely older than 6 yrs and it was fine.

I think 9 or 10 is fine, but depends on conditions. Go with manufacturer recommendations and visual inspections.

This is a timely topic for me because I just got a flat.

Instead of buying one replacement tire, resulting in one new tire and three old on the truck, I bought two and put the undamaged one in the truck bed for future spare use. I ordered a used rim off eBay, and will put that old tire on it. Then I think at the next rotation I will rotate out one of the older tires with the spare, and cycle the spare through the two older tires until they all need to be replaced.

So for me, it was about getting a spare, so I don't have to sit around for three hours waiting for the tow truck. I would much rather replace the wheel myself and then fix the tire when I can instead of being forced to do it that day. Which isn't that day anyway, since these tires are not in stock at the local shop. My truck had to sit there overnight until the tires arrived the next day.

Luckily I didn't need the truck, but if I did it would have been a huge PIA. This time it was just a medium PIA. It would have been a small PIA if I had a spare tire.
