We spent Thanksgiving exploring central Utah doing some hiking and offroading. We first stopped at Goblin Valley state park to hike around the fun hoodoo formations, then took wild horse road/factory butte road past little wild horse slot canyon until it meets highway 24 again. The road was mostly dry except near the muddy creek crossing where there was a couple hundred yards of slimy mud, probably as a result of some heavy rains a few weeks ago. Luckily we made it through and it to highway 24.

We stopped by swing arm city and I made a couple passes on the iconic hill; driving up it feels much more dramatic inside the vehicle than outside! We stayed in a little cabin by Torrey for a couple nights and were able to charge from a 50 amp RV plug, easily charging to full overnight.

The next day we took hell's backbone road to Escalante. The road had a decent amount of snow at higher elevations so it was muddy/soupy, but great views. We checked out the Escalante petrified forest state park and hiked upper calf creek falls on the way back to Torrey.

On the last day we hiked up to Hickman Bridge and drove the cathedral valley loop, which is about 60 miles of dirt, with the western side of the loop pretty rough and slow going. We were able to make it back to Grand Junction without charging, with 7% left.

Love that area. Next time try to get Thanksgiving reservations @ Hell’s backbone Grill in Boulder UT. Incredible (but pricey) meal that is their last day open for the season.

Wow. Amazing scenery. And that "swing arm" loop - crazy. I can see tracks up near the top. Lunatics!

Hope your kids enjoyed it! Not sure mine would have.

There was space available, but with 3 kids we weren't going to drop $600+ for a meal!

Muddy stretch! Snow mode with traction control off, and there was quite a bit of wheel spin even though you can't hear it!
Out at swing arm city.

LOVE IT! That looks like a fun trip. I'll have to add to my list of places to visit.... January 21st 2029 ;)

We are planning a trip through there in April. Looks like you stayed at Capital Reef RV and Glamping. Is that right? Would you recommend?

I saw them on VRBO but then looked at PlugShare and found zero check-ins for their 14-50 plugs so kinda wrote them off the list.

That's the place; my wife checked with them ahead of time that we could charge at one of the rv sites and they were very receptive to it, and we didn't need to pay any extra for it.

Your goal should have been to duplicate his path and at twice the speed.
