It's a classic sell on the news. The price gradually increased leading up to this event and now that has happened, people are taking profits. No bounce from this yet:

Or, if you want to be insulated from the rapid decrease in resale value due to it having “old tech”, which is more my thinking.Yes, if you're primarily interested in the tech, lease don't buy.
HA HA HA That's a horrible take and/or justification for your decision. These are on average > $90K depreciating assets, if you know in 6 months that your car will be outdated, why would you buy one today, knowing the price is staying roughly the same and the perceived value is vastly improved.Because some people get a car/truck for what it can do now, and are okay with that (Me, as exhibit number one, among others).
Unfortunately this is where the car industry wants to go. Basically a subscription service for cars.Yes, if you're primarily interested in the tech, lease don't buy.
And start on time! Was refreshing to watch a CEO that can actually speak in full sentences…
Did you see what they demoed? They are using end to end neural networks and it drives like FSD v10Tesla hardware is sh_t compared to this. Not even close. Telsa software is not close either. Oh, and it is $2500 vs $8000 for a 5x better system. Tesla is sooo far behind
I'm one of those people. I love driving my Gen 1, especially off road. Two years+ on and I still look for excuses to drive. That's true for some people. There will always be some people that need the latest & greatest thing.
The type of person that keeps a car for ~10 years doesn't really care. Neither do the people who don't care to pay some subscription fee for self-driving whatever.
Or the news wasn't as good as expected. I think a R2 launch without Gen3 isn't good news. It's a classic sell on the news. The price gradually increased leading up to this event and now that has happened, people are taking profits.
There will be a point where they make more money selling the subscription services than they do selling vehicles. Probably. That might be good for people who just want a simple truck and decide they don't need a subscription. I will probably be one of the subscription people, especially if it has Personal L4. That is next level, and worth paying for IMO.Unfortunately this is where the car industry wants to go. Basically a subscription service for cars.
This goes 100% against the "EVs are the way to a clean future" that was utopian hope. Massive E-waste.
BTW - it isn't yellow. As a Gen 1 R1T quad owner, I am quite pleased to drive this AMAZING vehicle myself! Why pay for Quad power and capability to let a computer drive it?? I want to drive my R1T!!!!!
What Rivian is doing is extremely risky. They are going up against both Tesla and everyone using an NVidia system.Stock down 7% already.....investors wondering how this will hammer R1 sales...
That's what happens when your place is line is too far back - Rivian cancelled yellow as an order option before my number was called.BTW - it isn't yellow.
