Very neat engineering and detailed analysis going into these vehicles, like others of course. Interesting to hear about their goals and decision making process as well.
I Hope they get to production and deliveries, it's a tough climb as a new Auto Company burning billions of dollars before delivering one vehicle makes unrealistic investors nervous.
I went to the Denver showing today. I don’t know if I will buy one, but I’m definitely rooting for this company to make it. Very friendly and knowledgeable Slate employees were there answering questions.
Frunk is bigger than I expected
Bed is bigger than I expected
Sits a little higher than what I expected
I have no idea how this will stand up in reality, but I love the plastic body panels. They did actually allow people to touch!
I was looking at shops in my area listed on RepairPal's site, and there's two. And the both are small, small shops. But at least they say they will service Teslas, so some EV related experience.
$32K is still the low end of the average new vehicle price of ~$50K. I thought Ford was doing one as well, along with Toyota's Maverick killer concept as if one could kill any tiny truck without US regulating it out of existence.
Quite honestly... if the R2S looks as good as it does, I may consider that for replacement of my R1T and pick up a Slate to handle all the house crud (hauling stuff).
I predict this thing is going to be a massive hit. Massive.
And I predict a majority of buyers will be first time BEV owners. THIS is how you get people to consider a BEV: build something that is better and worth the price. This is definitely going to be worth the price. (Just like my R1T is, IMO.)
It isn't a fit for my life, but I love, absolutely love, the approach they are taking. Where Ford and GM have failed to get a significant number of fleet sales, I bet you see these at job sites all over the place.
I probably skipped over it, but how are these going to fare in a major accident? I'm way too bougie to drive around in something with absolutely no creature comforts, the same way I wouldn't be caught dead in that little Kia van type SUV with the squirrels driving. Is this little truck going to stand up in an accident against the 8000 - 1000# Cybertrucks, Hummers and R1T's driving around? Will something like this be safe enough to risk my child's life in? Hmmm....
