20" Inch Edit: Excellent customer service experience from EV Sportline after wheels started rusting

Bought a set of 4 EV1 Sportline R1600 steelies at the begining of last winter on sale for $695. They were on my truck all last winter and are in the beginning of their second winter.

On arrival the paint quality was poor, many drip and splatter marks, and a few scraches. For the price I wasn't bothered too much.

Now after about 5 months of actual use the paint is catastrophically failing. It's so bad that I avoid washing the wheels because that causes large flakes to come off. With the paint flaking off there is now wide spread rust. It's so bad that I'm likely going to replace these before the winter is done because it looks horrible and I have no way of knowing this is just surface rust.

Turns out when something is too good to be true it often is. I recommend staying far away from the R1600 Steelies.

Have you reached out to them for support? That sounds like a major defect that should be covered under warranty. (They do have a 36 month warranty.)

This is why phones, emails and forum reach out exist. @EV Sportline stands behind their stuff and doesn’t sound like you reached out before blasting them. Shit happens…not everything is perfect…but what separates the men from the boys is how they respond.

As an approved installer of their products in Raleigh, never once has @EV Sportline not been there to assist…even with the dumbest of questions.

Each, under $500. I misread and thought OP meant 695 ea.. Still... if you live in area that salt roads. The alloy MSW from TireRack is less (than current price of the steelies) and lighter.

Been fine for me. I even bent one off-roading and @EV Sportline helped this guy out with a blemished replacement. I used the formerly bent and now straightened steel wheel as my fifth for a spare on my MTs.

also they are steel - sand them lightly and hit up with some Hammerite - easy to fix. Based on the damage shown in your one picture being right at the edge of the wheel, willing to bet the shop who installed them scratched up the surface.

Aerodynamics are hard to judge just by appearance. Something that looks good could be poor, and the reverse could be true. My 22" rims definitely do not look very aerodynamic, but they are the most efficient in all of Rivian's offerings. Obviously rolling resistance matters a lot. A crap ton, as they say.

One day a 20" that is as efficient as the Rivian 22" will be available. And then maybe some meaningful results will be possible.

Anyway, I think these rims look very cool. Painting them white and then wrapping the roof white could be amazing on my truck with the Storm Blue body.

These also weight about 45lbs a corner so the weight will definitely play into your equation at least for stop and go efficiency.

I think the warranty for a lot of products is so full of caveats, loopholes, and hurdles to initiate a claim that a lot of people don't really believe companies honor them so easily. Seeing the outcome of this thread is refreshing.

I can't recall the last time I had an issue claiming a warranty repair or replacement. Your claim is based on nonsense that apparently gets spread around?

I'm looking at a $100 check on my desk for a battery that leaked in my helmet comms. If by "hurdle" you mean that Eveready asked for photos of everything and a description, along with my receipt for the device that was damaged, then ok, that was a hurdle.

I’ve bought a metric ton of stuff from EV Sportsline and I’m the guy reaching out to them with dumb questions all the time. The always respond and stand by their products. I have some R1000s on the way with AT tires for the winter.
