R2 Delayed?

Was at one of the Rivian Spaces and an employee told me the R2 is going to be delayed until end of 2026 or even possibly early 2027. Has anyone else heard about this?

They wouldn’t tell me the reason why. Not sure if it’s a supply or manufacturing issue. If I had to guess I’d say it’s because of all the chatter online about the Osborne effect if they launch without their new autonomy tech.

if this is true, It will definitely make some people unhappy but it’s the right move. Makes no sense to launch without LiDAR, the new chip and the latest tech.

I am not going to read anything into it. Sounds like someone or thing trying to gin up anxiety. I've stopped following social media for advice that I cannot readily verify through other sources.

Well, that would stink but would help to validate my decision to get a used Gen1 instead!

Zero percent chance. Factory is spooling up. No way can Rivian just sit on a finished factory for six months and not produce anything. It's exactly the reason why they have to launch with Gen 2 and wait on Gen 3. They have no choice as Gen 3 and lidar aren't ready. They're making the best of a bad timing issue.

Remember that Front Line employees at the lowest rung know very little and often times fill in the gaps with wrong information for various reasons. You can get these employees to say whatever you want in the absence of direction and new info directly from the company. The best they can do is explain what they have sitting in front of you and not what's coming in the future.

I would take what people say at the Spaces with a grain of salt.

1) If they were planning to delay it, they likely would have announced it at AI day which was only a couple weeks ago where they reaffirm that they would be launching in first half of 2026 (though I suspect they may be doing a very slow ramp up and they won't really get a lot of cars out until later that year making the lack of lidar and older tech coming out first kind of a mute point.

2) When I went to the Rivian space grand opening near my home, I actually knew far more than the people who work at the space and the going ons with the company than the employees. Granted, I spend way too much time watching EV channels and watching almost anything Rivian. The employee did not even know the Quad was identified easily by the color of its break calipers. I'm sure they're new to the job and still have a lot to learn, but it does show they do not know everything about the company. The more experienced people at the spaces who do know a lot about the cars I noticed tend not to give any speculation or rumors about the company so that they do not give false information or start unnecessary rumors.

Right now I have far more pressing issues than the status of my R2 reservation. Such as, can Philly actually beat Buffalo today and not make it look ugly?
