My higher level friends that work for Rivian have said they are still completely in the dark about when the employees are even going to be able to purchase their vehicles. That doesn't mean it's delayed.
Im getting the same info. My neighbor was one of the early testers of the R1's before release, bringing home Zebra wrapped cars all the time. He still has no idea when R2s will enter that phase of testing. He does say it is all hands in deck for the R2s at the moment, so improvements on the R1 platform is definitely slowing down.

Everytime I go into a Rivian space/SC I always tell them information they don't know or they ask me whats the downlow online lol so grains of salt indeed.
Some people might find great joy in starting unsubstantiated rumours that they can convince others to repeat. Not me though.

I heard Rivian is going to provide free oil changes to all R2 owners for the first 6 month untill LIDAR is Released
No, it's not oil changes...the first R2 buyers without LIDAR and outdated processing power get free CarPlay for life!

Was at one of the Rivian Spaces and an employee told me the R2 is going to be delayed until end of 2026 or even possibly early 2027. Has anyone else heard about this?

They wouldn’t tell me the reason why. Not sure if it’s a supply or manufacturing issue. If I had to guess I’d say it’s because of all the chatter online about the Osborne effect if they launch without their new autonomy tech.

if this is true, It will definitely make some people unhappy but it’s the right move. Makes no sense to launch without LiDAR, the new chip and the latest tech.
It's definitely my experience that showroom employees in any manufacturer know very little and are the last to know much of anything. I wouldn't trust this a bit.

I love Rivian but how can you guys trust anything Rivian tells you like fan boys. Think of all the lies they gave us on the R1 alone. Why would the OP have any more knowledge than anyone else making all these fan boy claims and brushing off the rumor.

I have no clue if there is any validity to the delay talk, but I can say this- the BMW ix3 and the Cayenne ev have already been in the hands of journalists with full specs listed. Neither of those cars are available until summer of 2026. There are no specs available for the R2, nobody knows battery size, range, charging, configurations, price, trims, etc. So my logical brains tells me you won't see the R2 available for a year at least.

The BMW got in the hands of journalists now because EU customers start getting it in March 2026 with US likely July time.

Easy for Rivian to launch the configurator which will answer most of the questions you have in Q1 ahead of sales by end of Q2. Still achievable.

Im not saying its not possible, but im saying it seems unlikely. The BMW is still a 6 month swing from journalist time to release to customer in the EU. So since we know nothing about the R2 other than what it looks like, its not hard to believe that they won't be in customer hands until fall of 26 at the earliest.

Maybe the general public, but I'd bet the people who have placed reservations for "Launch Editions" will see them rolling out in the spring.

Sounds like they want you to buy R1S and not wait for R2. There is a glut of the current inventory.

I'm betting this won't be released until a month or so before deliveries start. Rivian received a lot of flack for delays and having people stare at their configurator for a couple years before anything shipped. I would think that instead Rivian wants a fast experience instead of being known as a company with tons of delays. We've seen pictures of all the test mules out, and Rivian is already running production testing on the new line. All of that is public knowledge at this point.

That's just how legacy auto has always done things, it's not analogous. Obviously those models launch earlier in the EU, then get shoved onto boats for the summer in the US, but still not the same. There's a huge process involved to get dealerships up to speed, to allocate stock based on dealer performance yada yada. Legacy auto has a huge on-ramp built into product launches because it's been a part of the accepted process for decades, nothing it JIT/Just In Time based. Rivian has so much riding on the R2, possibly including surviving in its current form, I'd be stunned if it's delayed at all, although the LIDAR thing is an odd move.

I was told by a random Rivian employee that the R2 is coming early (today), so that averages out to the original ETA.
