Somehow, somewhere, someone gifted me a dent at the top of the passenger bed upright, over spot between gear tunnel and wheel well. I have PPF so any PDR attempt would likely need access to the back side of the sheet metal. Wondering if this area is exposed or accessible once the bed trim is removed. Before I go taking things a part (and potentially for nothing), does anyone know?

Oh crap. That sucks! There was definitely someone here who removed their bed for some reason (curiosity?) and shared pics of the entire process. It was over a year ago, I know that. Probably a couple years ago...

Yeah, I remember seeing pictures somewhere. But search did not yield results. Maybe I wasn't using the right keywords.

I seem to recall they did it to see the area where the auto tonneau gets stored. Maybe the search has to include something about that?

Agree with dogman… there was at least one person who posted about taking the bed apart. The recent aging wheels videos about their cannonball run also show them taking the bed apart in places.

I recommend using an external search engine to look for “Rivian forums taking the bed apart” or something like that. The built in search here doesn’t seem to work very well.

good luck!

Just put a matching dent on the other side and be done with it.

This looks promising. And easy enough to unfasten the trim panel to save on time/labor.
If I remember correctly you need a T50 bit and a 13mm socket. Takes about half an hour to pull the panels, but you have to pull the one closest to the cab first.

Yah something like that. Did it when I installed the BuiltRight bulkhead molle.

Are you sure that it was someone hitting you? I have the EXACT same dent in the EXACT same spot and I think it was just mean leaving on it while getting stuff out of the gear tunnel. I still have it since I don't know what I can do about it. Hopefully you can get it fixed.....and not have it happen again.

1000% sure. My car was parked with nothing in the bed for days. Dent was not there when I parked it. Either way, doesn't matter how it happened. It's there and I am looking into feasibility of PDR, since I have PPF and PDR attachments cannot be made to the film (to pull on the sheet metal). Dent has to be pushed out from the other side.

Taking the plastic parts out of the bed is really easy. I did that when I got my truck in July so that I could remove and work on the tonneau cover assembly. Unscrew the bolts on the sides and the piece that sits against the gear tunnel. I think you take off the gear tunnel piece first. You will only need to take off one side for the damaged side. If you find a reputable paintless dent repair place in your area, they should be able to knock this out without a problem. Then just screw your two parts back on, and you're good to go.

Yep, have done this as well.

The inner structure of the bed side might not actually allow access to the crease where that dent occurred. Sure a talented PDR pro could set it right.

My first R1T came with a few dents that I never bother to fix. I found it was actually liberating not to have to worry about it and treat the vehicle as an actual truck. My new one is showroom perfect and I have a little anxiety about scratches and dents now.
