Been a customer of State Farm for over 45 years, home and auto. Until recently everything has been fine but of course no contested claims. Six months ago they switched to a new billing system and in regard to my Rivian they indicated I was not getting the best premium rate available due to an “address discrepancy” in my credit history from LexisNexis which caused SF to disregard my credit history in setting my Rivian insurance rate.. Contacted LN and they denied there was any such discrepancy in their records and they sent me a copy of the information provided to SF. My review of the LN information could not locate any such discrepancy. I have lived at the same address for over 20 years and that is where SF mails all my billings. I have spent the past 6 months, both by telephone and in writing, trying to get SF to indicate what address discrepancy they relied on in denying me a more preferential rate. So far I have been totally unsuccessful in getting the information. By the way my credit history is excellent. Unless things change in the near future I doubt I will continue to be a SF insured.

Been with State Farm for over a decade. I don’t love how the premiums keep increasing but they did take great care of me for this collision repair in Hawaii:

https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/...ollision-repair-in-hawaii-outer-island.33382/

Shockingly haven’t noticed a huge premium jump on that vehicle post repair, but the premium on my Gen 2 quad R1T is much higher than I anticipated although it’s in a different state.

I have way too many policies (home, auto, some business office CGL, umbrella) making it too much of a hassle to shop and switch.

Recently did a claim for a rodent that chewed through the coolant line. Not sure how he got there but the pictures showed bite mark damage. SF send an adjuster to look at the damage and approved whatever Rivian had invoiced for the repairs. I paid out of pocket first and then SF reimbursed me after. Pretty smooth process and it was my first claim with SF.

I've had SF on my R1T since I received it in 2022. I did price shop beforehand and the Nationwide/Rivian insurance was about 40% higher than the SF rate. I've done price shopping on insurance every other year (sometimes every year) and most all other insurers have lower auto coverage pricing but much higher homeowner's coverage - so I've stayed with SF. Haven't had any claims on the Rivian yet, fortunately.

We had a deer smash into us when I was doing the speed limit but the speed limit was 65mph. I had State Farm insurance and have had it for 40 years. They used a Rivian approved repair service and all went well. The final cost was $16K as the cooling system for the car and the battery was wrecked and that was expensive. State Farm paid the repair service directly and we only had the $500 deductible.

I've had State Farm on my R1T since I got it (~March 2023). The only claim I've made was for a windshield. They paid directly to the shop.

I had State Farm on my Rivian for the first 2.5 years (I just switched).

The Good
- claims process and payout
- very high coverage limits if you want them
- decent discounts when bundled with home

The Bad
- Save Drive Discount is abysmal. No matter how conservative I drove it never gave me a good score. My "discount" ended up saving me about $2 a month... IMO this is just a ploy to collect your personal driving data
- They kept increasing my premium every 6 months, by the end I was paying $230/month.
- no option to pay full 6 month premium in advance for a discount

currently with Lemonade and its $145/month which I am happy about. However they require FULL app permissions on your phone, which I didn't love when I learned that.

I was with State Farm for 3 years but switched to Allstate this week. I had 3 cars, boats, jet skis, house and umbrella with them. They cancelled two cars because of three claims they listed as "at fault". One was a parking lot keying (vandalism), one was a windshield crack and one was a pellet gun vandalism we reported to the police. None were "at fault" and should not have affected us. This was pointed out by Allstate and we finally got a letter from State Farm what we were not at fault. They also doubled our house insurance because we told them about water damage from a broken water heater, but we never made a claim (deductible was larger than the damage). So I cannot recommend State Farm under any circumstances.

I've had SF for 36 years and until recently received good service for what seemed to be reasonable rates. R1T is about $433 for 6 months with higher than base limits on liability.

The problem I had was when I took my truck to a Rivian certified auto body shop to have work done on the rear passenger side damage I got while parked in our library car park. The guy that backed into me came into the library to page me and tell me what had happened. Good karma on his part. He had state farm, so it should have been no problem. Turns out it was a $700 problem for me because that's how much state farm refused to pay on the repair that was their customers fault. The repair shop told me that state farm was awful at paying for the total cost of repairs and wouldn't work on my truck unless I agreed to pay whatever state farm wouldn't.

I've seen at least 1 youtube where a repair shop guy said he would no longer work are state farm insured damage. I can see why.

I'm unhappy enough with SF that I should be looking for quotes, but I'm too lazy to do it right now.

No, I would not recommend State Farm unless it was the cheapest price you could find.

For most, insurance has gone up across the board... especially in CA. The industry say it's because of the rise in number of claims. I think it's plausible, but with some skepticism. Plausible because of the post-COVID frenzy. Everyone is under tremendous pressure to be more productive. Lots of bad driving (was bad before, worse now). Plus, multiple devastating fires wiped out entire neighborhoods and towns/cities. My skepticism comes from what I see whenever I turn on the TV. Being in the ad biz for 30+ years, I know how much those spots and celebrities cost. If any insurance company can still afford to produce those ads and pay for those endorsements they can't really say they can't afford the claims unless they raise premiums. So... that shifts the spotlight to another problem, lack of government oversight to keep them honest.

Anyway, more specific to my query... Insurance is just like utility providers (internet, phone, etc.). Honestly, they have have equal potential to suck. But if I'm paying a lot more with one, for the same potential, I should be seriously thinking about paying less. Especially in these uncertain times.

Thanks all. Much to think about... and time to ping my SF agent for another quote.

I had State Farm’s for over 25 years (home and cars). Would never of changed insurance until the @$$holes dropped Us because of too many claims on home (weather related)…one of which they denied (foundation issue due to extreme rainfall). Rolled all our policies to Hanover. My rates dropped almost 1000 dollars a year for the Rivian. Screw them😉

Dig enough, you'll find similar of other insurance companies. Lots of stories like this coming out of Altadena, CA. Through deregulation, the consumer protection laws are getting watered down or simply not enforced.

I sue them all the time because they often fight paying out reasonable claims. I would never have them or Allstate (and unfortunately now USAA) for my own insurance.

State Farm since I first got my Rivian. Just had my first claim - a windshield crack. I had no issues and it was easy getting them to replace the windshield at the Rivian SC, even though a higher cost.

Long time State Farm, so went with them for R1T. Premium seemed okay.
Had one pretty good sized claim and they handled it pretty well. Repair folks had to generate an additional claim (they expected that) and that was also handled pretty well. Frankly, I was not sure what to expect from SF, but I’m happy with the coverage and service so far.
