Sorry if I missed something, or a potential place to look. We are in Central Pennsylvania, with the closest service center being Malvern, which is over 2 1/2 hours away. Anyone know if there are any plans for additional service centers in Pennsylvania? Or is there some website to go to that shows current and planned Rivian service centers? As best I can tell, Rivian’s website just shows the existing ones. Thanks for any help anyone can give! Hoping for something to come in someplace in Central Pennsylvania, even Harrisburg would help.

This is actually the one thing that’s giving us pause in considering a new Rivian.

All current and planned SCs are located on this map:

The only current 'in the works' specific to PA is in the Pittsburgh area.

My bet is that the future of Rivian service availability will be wholly contingent upon R2 success.

That said: don't forget that Mobile Service DOES exist and is growing (the Lancaster area alone now has 2 mobile service techs servicing the immediate vicinity, and we have another in York that I'm aware of).

I have not seen anything mentioned in the past few years about central PA. Based on Rivian's history of placement of SCs, I would imagine a Pittsburgh area SC before central PA.

Edit: I was typing while @R1Thor was posting. Guess I had the right idea.

We're in Lancaster and our R1S has been in the Malvern SC for exactly two weeks now - 12V issue that seems to be taking them a long time to diagnose and resolve. Mobile Service replaced our 12V battery exactly a year ago. I'm not complaining - they gave me a PDM Max as a loaner (in the same LA Silver we have) and it made my drive this past weekend to Columbus to return a student to OSU much easier because of the extra range of the battery.

@djinndjinn - Service anxiety is real...We picked up our R1S in Gaithersburg MD and that's where we had to take it for A/C service before Malvern opened. All I can tell you is that the service situation continues to get better. Don't hold off on buying one based on the service center locations - in spite of what you see in the forums, most of the Rivians made don't need any service at all, or, if they do, it can be done with mobile service.

You can't actually rely on that...that map does not actually show all planned SCs. There's a service center under construction 2 miles from my house that is within a few months of opening, and it's not shown on that map at all. It was in planning a year ago, and permits were approved 10 months ago. Still not on the map. I only found out about it because I lurk on my city's planning documents website.

I'm not arguing, but until Rivian announces they're close to opening, why would they put it on the map? All they're going to do is frustrate owners by putting SCs on the map that are 18+ months out. I would also suggest (because it's happened) that some SCs are temporary and others don't get past permitting and get relocated, so I really wouldn't rely on permits you've seen. While it can be exciting to hope for, it shouldn't be taken as a guarantee.

Cheers.

It's under construction, I drove by it, it's a huge building and has "RIVIAN" on the side of it, and the public documents state a planned spring 2026 opening. It's not temporary or vaporware or 18 months out. Pictures here in the local group.

So my point is that map is incomplete/unreliable, because this SC isn't even shown on their map under the "planned" toggle. Yet it's within a few months of being complete.

I didn't point this out to start an argument, I'm just telling OP in response to their question about "planned" service centers that just because the map doesn't show anything doesn't mean there isn't something in the works, because clearly Rivian doesn't really keep the "planned" part of the map up to date.

That's fair, however I might point out that critical detail was missing in your initial response. Which is the reasoning behind mine.

That said, a cursory 'Googling' doesn't suggest that any such thing is currently in the works in PA. So, this is verily a *Your Mileage May Vary* situation.

I am in northwest PA, 100+ miles from the nearest SC, and have not been back there since I picked up my vehicle 7 months and 7500 miles ago.
Mobile service has come to my house twice, same tech, once to install my spare and once for the turn signal recall.
Tire rotation at a third party 2 miles from my house. (let's not litigate that again)

So far pretty easy, as I have not had any significant issues.

Thanks everyone. Just wanted to make sure there was no site I should be checking. Sounds like word of mouth or good investigative research until officially opened. Am used to long service distances - been driving teslas for 14 years, and while most issues have been software there have been mechanical stuff that can’t be done by mobile tech. But in general, less trips than with my ICE cars in past.

excited to be a possible R1S or R2 owner - going for test drive of the former next week in … Orlando - 1,000 miles away (another pet peeve - closest place to demo drive is 3 hrs away - we just happen to be taking a driving trip to Orlando so fortuitous). Then a wait to demo an R2 unless we fall in love with the R1S. Have a Hyundai Ioniq9 and it’s … disappointing.

How far is Gaithersburg vs Malvern for you? For PA specific, next one IMO, would probably be Pittsburgh area.

FWIW, I bought when the only two options were Gaithersburg or Brooklynn. It was a roll of the dice and glad I didnt need it before Malvern opened (who have been great btw). Most of my trips to the SC so far have been for minor issues vs major ones, minus a door that had bad paint and needed a body shop vs a SC. But even the minor ones (noises, fit and finish mostly) needed adjustments mobile couldn't handle because they wanted to spend time on it and sometimes did entire parts replacements. All stuff I didn't expect from them, but came to appreciate for the convenience and desire to make things right.

If you're easy going on expectations, you'll likely be fine. If you like perfection, you probably want a SC close by.

We're 2.5 hours from our Service Center, @djinndjinn, but we frequently have other errands in the Portland area.

Here's a strategy:

(1) When we notice ANYTHING, we use the Rivian app to start a ticket. That gets us an appointment -- sometimes months away (though delays are decreasing).

(2) When there's a pending appointment, the app opens the opportunity to exchange messages. Sometimes the Portland Service Center responds, sometimes the Rivian Service Support Team in Michigan responds. So far, all my exchanged messages seem to have been with thoughtful and human Rivian employees.

(3) If things come up while an appointment is pending, the messaging function allows both parties to adjust the scope and urgency of the pending appointment.

***

I hope this helps you to become as comfortable with your Rivian purchase decision as we now are with ours.

Very best wishes!

We're really lucky - Appointments at the Malvern (PA) are available in 2-3 days! I just got ours back from a 2-week appointment where they were resolving 12V issues. Yesterday, as we were driving on snow-covered roads, we realized that they must have forgotten to reconnect the windshield washer tubing so we have no washer spray on the front windshield. I can hear the motor going and am imagining washer juice spraying all over the area behind the frunk.

I called service last night and he would have been able to get me in to fix it in just one day, but we're now out of town until Thursday so I'll be back at 8:15 am Friday to return it to them. Really positive service experience.

Nice - and congrats on the 2026 R1T. There are a number of us around so be sure to wave when you see another Rivian. While the Malvern SC isn't that far from us, I've been taking our R1S to CJ's in Lititz for tire rotations and state inspections. They just put new Michelins on Rosey as well - I managed to get 48K noisy miles out of my OEM 20" AT's. They've been great if you're looking for someone local. I do have a full set of pucks and leave them (along with an instruction sheet) when I leave the Rivian with them. Please feel free to DM me if you ever have any questions.
