What does that tell you? That once every 1,454 - 9,200 miles (giving FSD every benefit of the doubt here) it would get into a collision - minor or major - if left to its own device.
I think that assumes that every “critical disengagement” would get into an accident, but I think that would require that, even when the FSD knows that it doesn’t know what to do, it just keeps drivin’ along until it hits something, and I’m not convinced that’s what it does. I don’t know what it does _now_ but it _used_ to try to quickly come to a stop (something I’ve seen student drivers do when _they_ encountered a perplexing scenario and were able to stop and avoid a collision).

Asking someone to pay full attention to the road constantly while the car does the all work is a very big ask IMHO.
We can’t even get people to pay full attention when _they_ are driving the vehicle. If someone’s going to be texting while driving (and it seems that they’re going to be doing this regardless), I’d rather an array of unblinking, infatigable eyes are piloting the two tons of steel.

If someone were to claim that FSD is “statistically safer” than humans (in a way meant to convince others or influence a debate), then, yeah, they should have to show which statistics led them to that conclusion. But that’s not what I’m seeing. I see an insurance company offering discounts for using FSD, so _they_ think that _their_ statistics show that, but they’re not trying to convince anybody of that notion. _They_ believe it and they’re willing to put their money where their beliefs are.
Well I don’t know where you have been for the last 10 years, but Elon and his cult members have been saying exactly that for most of that time, despite offering no proof of it being true. Here is just 1 very clear example from 2020:

There are more examples here if you are curious.

Or…
This is just marketing to attract new customers. I don’t think they care about anything other than their bottom line.

Yeah, no. More AI slop being passed around as fact.

FSD 3-month trial subscription expires at the end of this month my husbands 2026 Model Y. He's not buying the renewal subscription for it. I've documented my experiences (as a passenger) with the app; it's... anxiety producing... to say the least. Car still seems to go in "asshole" mode when FSD is engaged. No matter what you have the system set to, it will pump the car to 80mph at any given chance. Thankfully, no speeding tickets... or collisions... yet. But God Damn close last night! Limited access highway. Watched the speed go from 45 (limit was 50) to 60 to 72, when an SUV decided to cut across our lane to get to a turn-about. We just cleared the rear end of that vehicle with inches to spare. WTF?

Exactly and well said. The anti-ADAS people make up scenarios and then it “proves” that the systems aren’t safer. I’ve got over 50k miles on three different systems now, it’s obvious what they can or can’t handle, when to take over, and when they will simply tap out. Meanwhile the other 99% of the time I’m safer AND more relaxed. I’m also more situationally aware of threats since I can mind the idiots around me instead of the trivialities of steering and braking.

I think ADAS is a tool, it can be safer in some instances but like any tool depends on who is using it. Just like regular driving, the experience and competency levels of the operator is a vast range of how did you get a license to professional driver.

Though I often wonder how the "professional" drivers got a license, LOL.

My insurance company offers value to know I don't drive like an asshole? Great trade.
Great trade? Why do you assume drivers like me who don't use FSD drive like assholes? Talk about who's the asshole here!

I'll send you $100 if you can quote where I said that.
Keep your cheap $100. It's implied in your message. Since I don't use FSD, how do you know I don't drive like asshole? You don't, so it's implied. Thanks for not saying it out loud.

Nope. Quite the stretch, and seems like an asshole move, to assign meaning to someone else's words. The insurance company doesn't KNOW you aren't a shit driver, so they charge you a baseline average rate. If I trade my data for a discount, they can SEE it, and I get a discount. That's all.

Baseline average rate? Why do you think insurance rates are much higher for drivers who don't use FSD?
