hah. I'm willing to change my name, lol. Ultimately, I would get a cover and the All Terrains. Now I could add those to the Quad or go straight for the Tri. Curious with those that have seen the forest edge or have it. Does it stain with jeans and silly stuff like that? Or with the prices does one make sense vs the other. I guess factor in 3300 for a cover and 5k for the AT wheels. So maybe its 68k vs 85k.

I traded in my 22 LE QM R1T for a 26 quad. My 22 had the forest edge interior, it was different but I grew to like it. If by "staining" you mean the color rubbed off, no, I never noticed that.
After owning both a Gen 1 and Gen 2- I'd go with the Gen 2. Only you know your financial situation, however.

Yeah, it will be my first Rivian. Long time follower of the company. What I meant by the forest edge is if it is great looking and if it really doesn't stain (holds up well over time). Money wise, if people were like makes no sense to get the Tri I would listen. But at the end of the day Im contemplating on a 23 vs a 25, gen 1 vs gen 2, forest edge interior vs the ascend, 68k vs 85k when i buy the upgrades if i get the Quad. I have both reserved, different places, and no way to test drive before they end up showing up at the front door, lol, so I gotta cut one loose.

If you can afford it, go with the Gen 2. A lot of improvements.

Not just that, but potential for future enhancements. Gen 1 features are pretty much set in stone at this point. Sure, you’ll still see a few UI improvements, but soon you’ll see in update notes, Gen 1s will trend towards bug fixes, and Gen 2s w/ new features/ enhancements.

I'd probably get the gen 1, but I'd find one with the wheels/tires you like and the tonneau cover. $8k narrows the gap significantly, though you can recover some of the cost by selling the 22s. Rivian doesn't force you into all-purpose mode on the quad.

Imo, Forest Edge interior for the win. But see it in person, first. There's always a few weirdos who don't like it. 😹

If you go for the gen 1, keep the current 22” wheels and use during summer/ fair weather and get a second set of aftermarket rims with winter vs AT tires. If you live in a snow zone having a set of winter wheels is really nice.

We have a '25 Tri. I have driven a handful of G1 R1T service loaners. They were all '22 Launch Editions. IMHO the G2 is superior in almost every category. That being said the loaners get beat to shit and don't get problems fixed. Many had noisy half shafts, smelled like mildew, had original front suspension components, out of alignment, etc.

I wouldn't consider a G1 unless it was a late production '24.

I'd spend the extra 17k if you can swing it. You will get most if not all or more back on resale. Or Rivian goes bust and VW doesn't step in and we are all driving Fiskers :CWL:

I'm trading in my 10K miles R1T Tri Max, Storm Blue, slate Sky/walnut wood, 22" Range, with front ppf and EV Sportline running boards for an R1S Borealis Quad on Tuesday. Rivian is giving me $75K for the trade. With the 6% trade in tax credit it would be close to $80K. $85K is a little on the high side.

Don’t forget, the dark AT package is $5k now, over the 22’s.

Slate sky/walnut wood is $3K over the standard black mountain/brown wood. PPF is $2K. Running boards is $1K + install.

I have a 2023 r1t quad that I absolutely adore. Wouldn't want it with anything other than the 20 inch rims. Mine was one of the ones that didn't have the PTC. Which would have been nice. Was able to pick up a hard tonneau cover for around 300 on eBay.
