Just took my first short drive with the new update and, WTH, was VERY displeased with the reduced font size for the main display. Can’t imagine who thought that was a good idea. So much of the display is wasted by ginormous borders, especially at the top. Do the Gauges and Towing selectors really need to take up 20% of the screen AND have the largest fonts? Constantly squinting at this display is going to drive a lot owners nuts. Please, Rivian - fix this ASAP!!!

Having said that, I think I have found my new daily driving mode - Sport Mode in Standard height. This seems to give most of the advantages of both All Purpose and Sport modes, with a more responsive feel, but less jarring than the regular Sport mode. And, Kneel mode is definitely lower. Now, to test my Apple Watch implementation. With my Gen 1 R1T, I’m not expecting much there.

I really can’t understand why this is so problematic to some and not for others. My Phone as Key has worked perfectly 100% of the time since day 1. Literally, I can’t remember a single time I’ve ever had to take my phone out, or even had to wait. It’s been instantaneous and perfect. iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone Air.

You’re all leaving the app running at all times?
Mine sucked before the apple key update (and yes, the app was always running). My Gen1 was acceptable though, while Gen2 was absolute garbage before the update. It works flawlessly now with apple key - it's nice that it's finally on par with my Model Y in that the doors just unlock every time.

Meh. It is funny what people care about. I don't care at all about those.

Yes, it is slightly annoying I cannot change drive mode when cruse is engaged. Slightly. I would rather get a UHF improvement that justifies $50 per month. I am losing hope they will ever catch up with Tesla FSD at this pace.

But...

Thank you, Rivian. Seriously. I think every update is a gift, and while I wish this one was more of what I wanted, everything they provide is a gift. Rivian, you rock! Keep them coming! (But I am not paying $50 per year for this crappy UHF I have now.)
Yeah, also not paying $50 a month for it. I keep trying to use it and it tried to run me into a parked FedEx truck today (parallel parked, not in the drive lane) and then faulted all at the same time I disengaged. That was exciting. I feel like I'm a safer driver without UHF. I've even been having issues on freeways now with phantom braking - haven't had those issues since Gen 1.

Gen1 here but I don't tihink they'll ever catch Tesla in any aspect. 2020-2021 M3 with HW3 FSD is probably better than what Gen2 can do now. I recently drove a 2024 M3 with FSD and it was so awesome and smooth. I'd happily pay $100 a month for the FSD that Tesla offers.
It's pretty nice. Hard to switch back and forth between my HW4 MY and the Gen 2 R1S. You literally never have to intervene for FSD other than to correct nav issues and weird lane selection, and then I switch to my Rivian which you have to watch like a hawk. Honestly UHF off-freeway really probably shouldn't have been released yet. It's done a lot of dangerous things while I've been driving.

So I noticed the font size within 30 seconds of driving! I am now at the point of needing readers and this is just another slap in the face reminder! Lol. Also I think the windshield washer runs slightly longer when you request a quick single swipe rinse. I also like the ability to kneel the truck while pulling into my driveway but it gives up the garage door opener while it’s lowering. So I save time lowering the truck only to have to wait to get the door open icon on the dash to raise the door!

UHF has not improved with this update. Unfortunately.

It does seem like Spicy lane change is smoother now, but I can't be sure. It's still aggressive, but the transitions seem less jerky. I have done quite a few Spicy lane changes so I think it is better. Maybe. 😂

The true test will be trying it with my wife in the truck. If she complains, it's still not good.

I’m always in spicy unless it starts tailgating someone which it likes to do off the freeway. I don’t mind the aggressiveness of the lane changes, but I also am a Mad Max FSD fan.

I got notification of the update but will wait a week or two before installing. I've got a Gen 1 R1T, so there's not anything compelling to me.

I have memories of folks who had their cars out of service as a result of issues in an earlier release.

While some of us wait for our R1s to be flagged, I’m still reading conflicting info on Sport Mode. Does it have the Soft ride setting? I believe my current Gen 1 Quad R1T has soft already so I’m hoping I can use Sport, Soft, Standard.

I happened to have an old photo as well. Here's my before and after. You can see several fonts are smaller and the car diagram is much smaller with a lot of wasted space top to bottom now. But, thankfully, the "towing" tab and font are still plenty large.

I am absolutely not digging the smaller fonts. I'll hold off for now on the update for now. Sigh.

In Sport, Standard height, there is no Soft suspension mode. Only Firm and Moderate (or whatever the middle one is). I prefer the middle setting anyway with Standard height. It seems to be the most comfortable to me.

Sport with Standard height is my new default drive mode. I love it.

Yeah. Sport mode on standard height and moderate setting is the bomb. It has the snappier throttle response and flat, sharp handling that makes Sport mode cool, but offers a little more livable dampening, probably due the suspension not be nearly so bottomed out.
