I wonder if most people with issues have it in their back pocket.
Interesting theory. Maybe all the people having problems also have metal hip replacements interfering? 😆 I joke, but not really. My phone is in a hard case on a belt clip. Same as always. PaaK works great. Could try sticking it in various pockets but would probably inadvertently sit on it with my fat a**. 🫠

I wonder if most people with issues have it in their back pocket. I’ve never had an issue in the 3 years I’ve had my R1S unless my phone is in my back pocket. I do not drive with it in my pocket so 99% of the time it is in my hand or gym bag as I approach and unlocks as I walk up.

First phone was an iPhone 12 Pro Max, replaced it with an iPhone 14 Pro Max, both work the same. Always have my app open and have location services for the app set to while using app. I do that so if I’m working in the yard or garage I can just close the app so it does not keep locking and unlocking.
Prior to the last update, with my phone in my back pocket it didn't reliably unlock. Now it works great with my phone in my back pocket. I have another PaaK issue which seems to be specific to my truck, which probably means it will get straightened out with the next update. Fingers crossed.

I'm guessing this update will be heavily focused on Autonomous +. Maybe even what was shown during AI day. They have to give people a reason to plunk down $2,500

really looking forward to this:

  • Ability to adjust drive modes, ride height, ride feel, and brake regen while Adaptive Cruise Control and Universal Hands Free are active
  • Upgraded to Unreal Engine 5.5 for smoother animations and improved rendering

Meh. It is funny what people care about. I don't care at all about those.

Yes, it is slightly annoying I cannot change drive mode when cruse is engaged. Slightly. I would rather get a UHF improvement that justifies $50 per month. I am losing hope they will ever catch up with Tesla FSD at this pace.

But...

Thank you, Rivian. Seriously. I think every update is a gift, and while I wish this one was more of what I wanted, everything they provide is a gift. Rivian, you rock! Keep them coming! (But I am not paying $50 per year for this crappy UHF I have now.)

Sport mode is now available on all Dual-Motor variants. Sport mode prioritizes on-road vehicle performance and optimizes responsiveness and handling in all-wheel drive.
I wonder if this is related to why the performance upgrade option disappeared for some people. Anecdotal evidence seems to suggest it's still there for the Gen 2 folks but maybe there was something in the upgrade software that had to be redone for Gen 1.

As far as the software updates go, I uh honestly haven't cared about a new feature since the blind spot cameras and I seem to be one of the peeps who has never lived the whole continual improvement experience. So much of my shit is broken now and I kinda wish I'd never updated it since I bought it. My proximity lock at home hasn't worked since they put in google maps (because everywhere is 'home' now for some bizarre reason), I lost navigation and scheduled charging. I don't honestly think I'm getting either of those back because it seems Rivian deprecated the simple versions of those that didn't rely on being able to phone home through the internet. My truck has a GPS but since two updates ago doesn't know where it is and I'm a little terrified of installing updates that might fix something because I may lose something else that still works. I'd probably give them money at this point to be able to roll back.

I'd have been happy to get nothing apart from bugfixes and just still have everything that I had when I took my truck home the first time. I suppose it's nice it seems they listened to people's biggest gripes about sport mode. That seems to be a straight-up improvement for all owners. I'll give them some props for that.

Kinda happy with the ability to trigger the kneel before I stop. Whenever I park, I have to tell everyone not to touch the doors until it finishes kneeling.

Is this a new feature? If so, how do you trigger it?

-Standard height in sport is business.
-I was always surprised kneel wasn't lowest, so going lower is a nice change. Plus being able to trigger it while driving.
-Launch mode is nice, even though I won't use it much.

Car Key on Apple Watch already works or do you mean an Apple Watch app for remote unlock?
It appears to be the latter since car key doesn’t work with Gen 1 and this release specifically says it is for both Gen 1 and Gen 2

For dual performance r1 what does this update do specifically ? I know they made some changes to sport mode. But seems like I still need to change to that mode every time. Has all purpose mode been updated?

Gen1 here but I don't tihink they'll ever catch Tesla in any aspect. 2020-2021 M3 with HW3 FSD is probably better than what Gen2 can do now. I recently drove a 2024 M3 with FSD and it was so awesome and smooth. I'd happily pay $100 a month for the FSD that Tesla offers.
