Isn’t this likely related to the lawsuit by VW dealers against scout for going direct because it’s an EREV? What I read was the DTC model allowed for Tesla Lucid and Rivian was because those were straight BEVs. So they can’t really come to market until that is sorted out I would think.

Because 85 percent of the reservations are for the EREV, sounds like they are pivoting to focus on that one.
So my next EV has been hijacked by popular demand of an alternate model??? Bah humbug.

More EVs = less gas being burned, leading to cleaner air, less CO2 and other pollutants in the atmosphere, etc.
With more noise pollution due to the noise generators they are forced to install.

Have you heard the sound Toyota hybrids make? It is horrendous. My Mach-e was super annoying, so I installed a volume control on the speaker to I could turn it off. Rivian's fake sound isn't too bad. Not bad enough to make me find the speaker and disconnect it.

Who would have thought that noise pollution would increase as engine noise is eliminated?

Almost everything thing we make is an environmental detriment. But some things are much worse than others. So doing nothing isn't a good plan.
Agreed, but doing the wrong thing is also not a good plan.

Interesting, the belief that EVs aren't an environmental detriment.
They are much, much, much better than ICEV in terms of the environment. Even if you factor in using the dirtiest source of electricity, they are still cleaner than an equivalent ICEV.

Obviously no vehicle at all is the cleanest option, but I have a feeling that trying to walk everywhere is gonna put quite the cramp in your day. If there are gonna be cars, then it should be cars that do the least amount of damage to our planet. Right now, that's EVs.

Yeah, I'm not the hugest fan of the noise makers either. That being said, overall the volume of the low-speed and reversing noise makers has got to be lower than running or idling gas engines.... have there been any studies comparing the two?

That might be true if you compare a R1T with a Ford F250. But what if you compare a R1T with an Accord hybrid? Or a Toyota Prius? I don't think the benefit is so obvious in those comparisons. In fact, a good argument can be made that the Prius is better for the environment than a R1T.

No, just my ears.

Not too long ago, I was walking on the street and didn't hear a 15-year-old Ford F150 as it approached from behind me. It was very, very quiet. I certainly would have heard one of those annoying Toyotas.

While that is technically true, you do also have to account for use case. I can't haul a half ton of river rock or gravel in an Accord or Prius. I can in my R1T.
