I signed up on 12/21/2018, order #4700, so now I am starting on my 4th year of waiting for my R1S and I am beginning to question if the wait is worth it. I had one year on my Land Rover Discovery when I ordered the Rivian so I had that vehicle to enjoy during the wait. I have had a test drive in the R1T and that renewed my enthusiasm but now my patience is growing thin. Many other EV's are coming to market and will be readily available before it is my turn to have an R1S. Is anybody else getting tired of waiting?

Definitely tired of waiting, but am trying to stay positive and hope my March/April window of delivery holds true!

Feel free to buy one of the EVs that competes in the same segment with the R1S or R1T.

I placed my order a few weeks after you. My delivery window is First half of 2023 for the R1T Max pack.

I also have reservations for the Hummer SUT and SUV, Lightning and Silverado. First one to arrive gets my business the rest will be cancelled.

Four and half years is a long time to wait.

Did you get an estimated delivery date email yet? What has rivian told you regarding a date/date range?

I would probably be feeling the same if I had been waiting that long. But the other way to look at it is that you know you are likely on the right side of that wait now and it's probably going to be worth it in the end to stick with it!

1164 days and counting for me! ?
Nah, I'm not worried about it. I'm currently scheduled to get my R1T in March/April. That works for me. I don't have any urgent need to get into a new vehicle. I'm just excited to be moving from an ICE truck to an electruck. It would be different if there were lots of other electric trucks I could've bought last year. But there weren't. There still aren't. If I get my truck in March/April, it will still be the first electron-guzzling pickup available. If my truck wasn't coming till 2023, then that would be a different story. I would probably still prefer the Rivian over Ford and Chevy (full size trucks have just gotten too big; I used to own a Raptor - ugh, impractically giant).

Isn't that the point? Right now there is not a real alternative - I'd argue F150 won't even be a direct competitor for a large segment of Rivian customers. But one day Jeep, Land Rover, Tesla and others will offer competition in the same segments and Rivian is blowing an opportunity to develop loyalty with many potential customers.

We are all getting tired of waiting, but the end is nigh. The last bit of waiting is always the hardest.

I'd prefer to think that Rivian is taking all of the feedback to heart and are trying to fix as many things as they can before the general public actually starts getting their vehicles. I mean look how fast they "fixed" that photoshopped picture of the limestone truck? Doug DeMuro's complaint about the tire pressure sensors?

After seeing how Tesla started, I had my eyes wide open when I placed my deposit. I figure I’ll get my R1S when I get it. I’m not planning around any specific time for it to be delivered.

I just see nothing out there competing with the R1S right now. Not sure what could sway me, maybe if Chevy would put out a Tahoe EV I could be enticed but pretty sure I’ll see the R1S before that would happen anyway.

Be patient. It will be worth the wait

Certainly a frustrating thing. New technology and new companies rarely get it perfect out the door. Add the pandemic and supply chain woes and you have the perfect storm. In addition, it appears Rivian is trying to appease Amazon as well. So they have many challenges going. The R1S is last in line, just a guess. So I'll take my July to Sept time frame and hope for the best. I have a deposit on a Fisker Ocean. Now that's another crap shoot. But the SUV looks really cool.

Oh yeah and my sympathies to you, Dick. Most definitely tired. The only way it could even be close to worth waiting, is if you're reasonably young, which apparently most here are, so they don't really have much frustration to vent. I'm not and wish I had made a different decision 3 years ago. It seems like everything has gone downhill, since the mention of Guides in May and delays. Unfortunately, I can't go back in time......but, fortunately I do now have a red line and backup plans. I won't budge one second beyond that time. I hope Rivian comes through. I just have doubts.;)

I expected delays and challenges, being that they are a brand new car company making a brand new vehicle. Really I'm more frustrated with the complete and total lack of any consistent communication and inability to hit basic commitments/milestones. It really makes it seem as if:

1) there is little to no planning or organization...you know, the basic blocking and tackling to make/deliver/support products, and...

2) they just don't give a shit

Personally, I think the best course of action is to lower all expectations, forget about delivery and quit lurking on this forum for about 3 months :)
