I am leaning towards Catalina Cove being similar in construction to Limestone with the flecks of blue and green changing the color perspective based on how the light strikes it. Of couse with a blue-green teal base rather than the grey of Limestone.

The key question is whether Rivian would sell more cars if they offered more vibrant colors. Secondarily, do the colors they offer help define the brand identity they are trying to create? I'd also like to know, when comparing companies, if there is a correlation between the amount of vehicles sold and the number of colors offered. I'm not sure of the answer to any of those questions.
The rest of the colors like Borealis and even the multiple greens only attract less than 5% of customers. Lot of added production complexity for so few customers. Rivian's already doing more than they need to here.

Most people want White, black, silver, grey, and blue in the USA.

There's no real CPO program (no extended warranty). As I am in the same boat as you, I'm watching all this closely. And from what I've read, there is no difference buying from Rivian than any other source other than inflated pricing . Some have been very disappointed in the quality of the Rivian sold vehicle. And since they generally aren't even close to local, you have to add travel to the mix. After travelling to pick up the vehicle, you may feel an obligation to buy (sunk cost fallacy) rather than abandoning a not quite right vehicle. I'm looking at used Rivians locally, and hoping for an R2 before my current R1S lease extension expires in Sept.

I can't wait until tomorrow, please let me order my R2!!
Interesting and a 180 degree view from what my sister's partner just experienced early last month. We happened to be visiting her in Phoenix, from Tennessee and he flew out to LA to pick up a pre-owned (I'll start using the correct term from here on out, thank you for the correction) R1T, I don't recall the details but the truck had less than 10,000 miles on it and was basically new. As far as I'm aware, and he's only a month in at this point, he has been very happy with the purchase. Yes, he had to travel out of town to get it but it wasn't a big deal, he flew out and drove back in the same day. He kept talking about how it was over 100k new and he picked it up heavily discounted lightly used.

We've been driving EV's for over 11 years now and we've only purchased one out of eight (a Tesla) locally and if we hadn't rejected the first Tesla it would have also been out of town as our local Tesla store hadn't been opened at that point. So, I don't mind traveling, I actually find it quite fun and a great way to get to know your new purchase. I would only be interested in a low-mile R1, and, again, I prefer smaller cars so I'll likely stick with the R2, it's actually shorter than our current Equinox EV. The other issue is our garage, I need to have our friend bring over his R1S and see how it looks in the garage, more info. to make an informed decision.

I am one of those few oddballs that was actually waiting to see if they had a red or an orange, as the fun brand colors makes Rivian unique (literally every other thing I'm cross shopping only offers gray, black or white). Hoping we maybe see more option after launch. As of now, I don't think foresee me getting an R2 in any of these colors.

For a few odd people here and there, color does make a difference. And for Rivian to offer them, that makes them a differentiator in the market.

Still betting this is the blue (from Motortrend review). Loving the Borealis as a limited edition launch color.

I would bet that's the silver but I wouldn't be mad if the blue accents are Catalina Cove. The press R2D2 wraps also had red, orange, purple and green so who knows.

Let's see: your choices are: 5-6 shades of greyscale, greens, maybe blue, purple. No red, no yellow - the colors that Rivian launched with. Get rid of at least a couple of the grey colors - it's unnecessary to have that and put in something else.

I don‘t know what you’re looking at. There’s a silver and a darker gray. That’s it. White and black don’t count as gray.

These are the colors most people want. The masses don’t want yellow or neon blue.

Having two greens, a purple, and what appears to be a dark teal at launch is way more interesting than what most manufacturers launch with.

That’s not Catalina Cove. It’s more dark teal, this is electric blue. It’s just a wrap.

I feel differently, white and black are mixed to make grey.

"Yes, white and black are considered the endpoints of the grey spectrum (or grayscale). They are achromatic colors that lack hue, with black representing 0% brightness (total absorption) and white representing 100% brightness (total reflection), while grey fills the range between them. "

I've been checking the Rivian website and CarMax for used R1Ts (I went to a Rivian service center last month to test-drive an R1S and an R1T — hated the way the R1S rode, but fell in love with the R1T).

CarMax had a 2025 R1T Max Pack with Performance Package, Sight and Sound, Power Tonneau, Ocean Cost interior, and 22-inch all-seasons for $68,000 with 25,000 miles on it in Illinois. Was about to pull the trigger and pay the $549 fee to have it shipped to NC when someone snatched it and had it shipped to Colorado.

Even though the R1T is a vastly different vehicle from the R2 I have a reservation for, I think it'll be a much more versatile vehicle for my needs.

I love my Limestone! :like:
Same!

Im not someone that avoids color…ive had 2 red cars before. But I really like the modern elegance of Limestone. Sad they canned it And kept the more standard looking silver and gray.

I may flip to R1T as well, but it's even longer than R1S so I have little hope of it fitting in our garage and me still being able to navigate to my toolbox in front of it. I don't want to have to back the vehicle out every time I need a screwdriver from the toolbox. Ideal situation is we get an R2 now and I pass that on to my better half in a few years and pick up an R1T when we transition to a different house (hopefully with a better garage setup).
