4400 lbs tow rating makes me sad. So much for hoping to drag my camper around locally with it.
That is a bit disappointing, particularly as most of us expected it to be 5,000 lbs. The wheelbase of the R2 is about 115", which could limit max trailer length somewhat, so I wonder if Rivian is being ultra-conservative with the weight recommendation because of that.

If this holds (I expect it will) then I am out. Never going to buy that range and charging speed for a next generation vehicle. So frustrated. Just needed another 15% range and I would be in. Will be holding out until tomorrow to see if they announce a future max pack before cancelling reservations.

Yeah I don't need an AI to tell my that in cabin temperature is too hot or cold. Autonomy+ as it is currently being marketed for UHF driving and whatever other features being announced as driving aids is what would make not paying $50/month attractive.

Autonomy + Is included because it is last years hardware and software. No in cabin AI compute, no lidar, no eyes off. If that does not matter to you then it is attractive.

What's up with the sound system choices, has Rivian completely given up on audio?

Nine speakers in premium/performance trims
Five speakers in the base trim

Heck, I'd be better off plugging in a pair of Homepod minis.

Yeah I've been thinking about that. They mentioned that lidar was more for increasing their collection of data, but it doesn't seem like that's the only thing they would use it for in regards to ADAS/Full Autonomy.
The problem with lidar will be the software. They will use it for data collection initially because the software will be ready and it helps even non-lidar gen 2 cars.

For customer level advancements that really uniquely take advantage of lidar, i'm a little more skeptical how soon they can get everything developed. It could be a much longer wait.

That's the rub in the decision making for people who kind of want more autonomy, but don't really care if it's the software is that far out. There's no clear way to know at this point.

All most exactly what I thought pricing would be. LE just under $60k and Dual/Large $55k.

That base model will not be made in mass quantities, it was a trim for headlines.

Basically all R2's above base with options are above $50k. Even the Single/Large is $49,985 before options.

Yeah, but it’s better than many mid-size vehicles at 3500. Maybe they’ll release a collab camper to meet the rating
It would be more than enough to pull my InTech Sol Dawn (seeing as I towed that with a Model Y, before I got my R1T)

If this number does hold (and I'm pretty sure that Ars won't have an incorrect price), there's no way the Tri Motor hits $70k - more like $65k I think...
No info on Trimax release date or price..... guesses on when those are avail?

That RWD with large battery is under $50k, and would be something my sister would pick up (an upgrade from her ID.4 for sure).

What sort of driving are you doing?

Also, there is no doubt more range and charging speeds are coming. Rivian is hiring more and more for that space.

That's definitely a question that needs to be asked by journalists. There's a big demand for a max pack option. I would pay for it in a heartbeat.
