No semi-active on the Premium trim seems like a miss to me. I'm not versed on the differences, but definitely sounds like something that should be on a "premium" trim.
The bright side is that I'd read on one of the reviews that the front suspension is a strut with coil over setup. Aftermarket crowd can go nuts on this without having to deal with semi-active setup limitations.

Agreed they're very different vehicles, as I've already stated. However, my worry is that there would be a lot of folks who're going to be assuming what I'm assuming and will cross-shop the R2 vs the MY. Whether the R2 can command a 5k price premium will remain to be seen. I was really hoping Rivian (with all the work they put into cost-optimizing the R2) would gets it's pricing so solid relatively to the Model Y that it would be a no-brainer for cross-shoppers. If these numbers are indeed true, alas it doesn't look like that's the case.
I think that the R2 interior is going to be superior to the Tesla offerings, just with the two screens alone (was so happy at the reveal that they didn't go to one central screen!). Along with more advanced functionality with the steering wheel thumbwheels, material quality (and just a better design, in my opinion) that the R2 will feel more premium in comparison.

Isn't that front and rear suspension? Or is the rear different and I missed something?

How does the R2 have less cargo space than our Subaru Forester? I'm kind of disappointed by that. Was looking at it as a replacement but thought it would have more room.
What is the cargo space (and frunk volume) in the R2? I didn't see that posted.

Material qualify in the new Y is actually solid. Everything you touch is nice. The one screen setup is actually not a deal breaker for people (but I'm sure it is for some) and the cabin is very quiet and the ride is well sorted. The thigh support extender on the performance of the Y is a godsend. The white interior + black headliner actually goes a long way in making the car feel more premium.

Where I think the R2 would win is design (boxy cars do well) and space, as well as riding taller. This will likely attract buyers to it. Also the whole Elon Musk thing. That alone should do wonders in pushing people from the Y to the R2.

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
Awesome info. The prices were slightly lower than I thought they would be. I also didn’t think they would do a single-motor with the larger battery pack for just under $50K, so that’s a pleasant surprise.

Rivian is going to sell a ton of these. I can’t wait to turn in my Tesla at the end of next year and try out a Rivian! There will be bumps along the way, but I think Rivian is on its way up.

In the future my wife and I will get an R3 (2028?) and we can fight over who gets to drive which one. Hopefully her car makes it until then. 😳 😂

I don't know how much time you've spent in Model 3/Y with a single center screen so keep that in mind. I drive between the R1S and Model 3 as those are our two EVs. I find it it really doesn't bother me and in fact, I don't really look at either one very much when driving.

I guess I'm old fashion and use mirrors and turn my head, just keep up or drive about the same speed as the flow of traffic and the only time I really look at the screen is to change the audio source or the traffic map - both are on the central screen for Rivian and Tesla.

Now, if one of them had HUD, then that would be different. My weekend car has two screens too - driver's and infotainment on the center. That I look at the driver's screen as its the RPM gauge (ICEV).

Is there an official press event scheduled tomorrow for all the juicy details officially from Rivian? All I’ve seen is what’s posted on the website that says meet the full lineup on March 12.

I had a 2022 Model Y, and before that a 2019 Model 3. I had gotten used to the one screen setup, but when I got my R1T I realized just how much I missed being able to have important driver info there.

Tomorrow is the opening of SXSW, which Rivian has a big presence at (like last year). There's stuff scheduled for revealing/launching R2, including open-to-attendees ride alongs. I'm pretty confident in calling it the launch event.

58k isn't a bad price for launch version if that includes everything. I wish it would have had at least 350 miles if not more. But 330 is decent. Will wait to see how much will be real world miles. I'm waiting to see real reviews of actual R2s.
Not bad at all. Just under $60K out the door with destination, right? You also get lifetime Autonomy+. I wonder if it will transfer or stay with the vehicle though? This has always been a point of contention with Tesla.

Rear is different. RJ shared these images on social platforms a while back and talked about the "Starfish" knuckle. https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/...ng-says-rj-scaring-with-preview-photos.45770/

Though the rear spring is not present, rear looks to be a trailing link type. I thought I've seen a photo long ago that showed front and rear in perspective, but I can't find it.

I'd love to pick up the Launch/Premium edition (If I have the option from my place in line). I'm wondering if - since the first roll outs won't have LIDAR/Rivian Processor - the later version WITH those two will still have the "Launch edition" specs?

Right now, no one know how many LE's they will produce before closing books on those.
