I'll gladly pay $5K additional for a Premium R2 for V2L, better looks (new Model Y looks like a Kia/Hyundai), more ground clearance, and an interior that doesn't look like a Nordic prison.

While I know this will make people angry, this comparison exactly proves the point about the strategic mistake in the R2 design. R2 is a 2027 model year (for all intents and purposes given the ramp rate) vehicle that is benchmarking reasonably well against a chassis launched in 2019 and refreshed in 2024. Model Y is a long-in-the-tooth model that has been steadily losing share everywhere and especially in China. Tesla should be on track for a full refresh in 2028 (about the time R2 is really ramping). And in Europe, where R2 faces real competition in the segment, the market has plenty of 800V vehicles in the 60k+ Euro price range and will have lots more in 2028.

I think the R2 is a terrific form factor, a compelling technology package, a good brand, and a very nice design inside and out. I just hope they are already focused hard on a refresh to get the powertrain up to international standards. You cannot hide behind protectionist walls for long.

What do you think average EV buyers (in Europe) will think the 800V architecture provides them when the majority will charge at home and don’t necessarily do long road trips?
Edit: I also find it hard to ignore the trend of Tesla sales in EU recently. I don’t think a model refresh in 2028 is going to do much there.

Can you please also clarify in your post that the Standard R2 is RWD and the Premium/Performance are AWD? Similarly the Model Y Performance is AWD? Makes it easier for folks who are looking for direct comparisons.

Hey, let the 600 pound gorilla speak.....What about the UHF for $2500 or $49/month vs $99/month for the Y???Just talking numbers here. Add in longer warranty, load space, quality interior and better cockpit and $5G's extra is a bargain.

UHF is basically adaptive cruise with lane centering. I can't understand how that is worth any subscription fee.

I have no doubt it will get better, but as of today, not worth it.

I think Rivian did a pretty competitive price when you compare the performance duel motor. But they did not do such a good job on pricing for the Premium duel motor. It is significantly higher then Tesla's premium AWD. I would not be so disappointed if the price was more like 51K or even 52K.

Well Rivian always have the option to reduce pricing at some point in the future, putting up prices doesn't go down well, as Rivian well knows. As it is the Premium won't be on sale for perhaps 8-9 months as of today so its MSRP isn't very relevant as its not available to buy, meanwhile its current price makes the Performance LE look very attractive for many, judging by posted comments.

Perf vs Perf...the Model Y Perf does have no-cost paint upgrade and white interior. Those will surely be $2-$3k on R2 Perf.

The value is in the LE R2 Perf with the no-cost Auto+ and Tow package.

The part of this that you shared doesn’t capture the rest of what’s written. Context matters.
Facts: Bloodbath last year for Tesla. A bit of stabilization from numbers last month. And R2 is coming plus plenty of competitors. Equals many more options for EU buyers.
I’m not sure what you’re point was. The trend for a month versus a year+ and looking toward 2028? In a few countries, one of which isn’t even EU.
