Got the call - Now what... I've 90% decided on the Rivian for my daily... But with a April/May time window, I'm not confident that is a realistic timeframe. You'd think if it was actually April, I'd be hearing from Rivian and I've heard nothing.

Just wish Rivian could at least have the same order communication as Ford.
It's 24+ weeks out for wave 3...

Order says what dealer is charging for the vehicle. So, as far as I can tell, you know when you place the order if they're going to charge a mark-up on it. I placed a deposit at a specified price. It is a contract. Wouldn't expect that the dealer could change the price at that point. They accepted the order at that price point.

Like others, for me it's likely who can deliver first. I believe Ford when they say 20-24 weeks. Certainly more likely Rivian will experience delays. At least with the order, I know its in and about when it will be here. Other than a 3 month delivery estimate window from Rivian last month, no confirmation. I'd rather have the Rivian. They have about 16-20 weeks to give me a firm date and effectively allow me to place a confirmed order. Willing to wait a little longer, but if the Ford comes and Rivian still hasn't given me a firm date, will have to move on.

The Lightning stuff all says 24+ weeks and has for a while now. My interpretation of that is it's a default for "we know nothing" and they don't know when production will start. ?

It's not a contract, it's an order confirmation, and isn't necessary. My dealer placed a wave 1 order without saying a word to me or sending me anything for a few days. Read the fine print, they can basically do anything they want.

My .02. I think the riven is a better value. Also April/May is right around the corner vs the Ford in wave three of being at (what?) Sept?? Nov??. Probs buy the Rivian and sell it in the 5 months as you wait for the Ford. I agree it seems weird that no word from Rivian with your delivery date so soon. These are the good problems to have- Do I go to prom with the beauty queen from Alabama or the Beauty queen from Florida?? Although in my case I am quite sure I would be arrested for going to Prom with either! haha

I reserved a Lightning immediately following Ford's debut presentation, May 19th. The reservations may have started earlier, so I don't know where I am in line. I haven't been contacted and have noticed that most, if not all, waves have gone to reservationist in California. Are there any others that have been able to order outside the West Coast?

I ordered in the first hour and was number 7 on my dealers list. They had over 300 orders. I got my email and ordered yesterday. Dealer accepted the order and no mark up.

My R1T estimate is May-June. We’ll see what happens …

Nothing for me, but it doesn’t really matter anymore. F150L Pro was the only pickup I was considering, and even if I got a confirmation email it wouldn’t deliver until 2024 or later. I’ll just keep my F150 until the Gen 2 Lightning reveals in 2025, hopefully that will go better due to improved supply.

Most likely we will get the R1S for the wife’s car, though I’m still eager for details on the upcoming Volvos and Kia EV9.

You could always go with the Lightning, delay your Rivian order (if necessary), and switch to the Rivian after a year. There's some risk there but I think the demand will be high enough you could sell the lightning with little loss after a year.

Job 1 is starting mid March, and Ford is targetting 1000 trucks a week starting for Job 1. Once they build the demo vehicles for dealerships, I'd expect some people to start receiving their trucks in late April or early May.

Well... I ordered it. XLT+ w/ Tow Pkgs

But no mistake - still buying the Rivian R1T. The SUV doesn't make sense for me. I don't ~need~ two trucks, but I feel like it's low risk having both. I want the Rivian for daily driving and plan to use it for that. The R1T will replace my BMW i3.

I spec'd the Ford more as a work truck to replace my V8 Tundra. Cloth seats, physical controls, ext. But I had to get the stupid $9500 312A pkg because heated seats were a requirement for me and couldn't be ordered on any lower level. Feel like Ford knew what they were doing to push people into over priced option packages on this one. So Im getting way more than I wanted on a work truck, but had to have heated seats.

Alright Rivian, lets get that R1T ordered next. Give me a call...

it’s been confirmed by workers at the plant that customer orders are being blended in with demo vehicles.

Call your dealer. He ought to be able to tell you where you are on his list.

I was in wave 2 and ordered an XLT. Just signed and sent over the purchase agreement. No markup. $57,999 with Max tow and technology package. I’m pretty sure Ford will deliver first because I am in the October to December window for R1T delivery. I would really love to have both….but these will be my first electric vehicles. I figure why not live with both for a bit and then make a decision. I’m sure both will keep value if not sell for over purchase price if I decide one is not a good fit.
