Only 2 Color Options For R2 Launch Edition?

So the “top tier” is going to be the only one available for the majority of the second half of 2026, right? And while you get good bells and whistles included in the $58K…..

… you only get two color choices? Is that correct? A Rivian rep left a vm on my phone to that effect…. But…

Silver - assumed free
Launch Green - pay extra

We don’t have an option for any other color?

Does that make sense to anyone else?

None of that is true. People just read too much into the original press release and now it's become this weird rumor that won't die. All colors are available. Plus Launch Green. Silver is the only free one so all others are paid options.

Looks like all the paintcolors will be available for Launch Edition, but no option for the Cloud interior (at least in the beginning).

I guess my Borealis/Cloud build won't be happening until late this year.

There’s a difference, though, between ’launch edition’ and what will be available ‘at launch’, I think. I believe you can get any color ‘at launch’, in whatever configuration is available, BUT if you want the special ‘launch edition, with the included tow package and other goodies, that might only be available in two colors. At least, that’s my theory.

Ummm.... No. I do understand that there's only going to be one trim sold initially... ie. "at launch". It will be... the Launch Edition.

And that trim will be the Dual Motor Performance with included bonuses.

At this point nobody really knows for CERTAIN, but it would appear thinking through the logic that

The LE is the Performance model, with some Launch extra perks When purchased as the LE
The FREE color for ?ALL? R2 is Eskar Silver, all other colors will be an upcharge
The PERFORMANCE line unlocks some additional colors, vs. the lower lines
The LE unlocks ONE additional color LE GREEN unique to ONLY the LE/PERFORMANCE model/purchase for a limited time
So, at launch with the LE-PERFORMANCE model, ALL COLORS including the LE GREEN will be available, all as upcharge (LE GREEN could even be MORE than others) and Eskar Silver will be the only FREE color with the LE model

But, who knows.

Kind of a surprising take when they're already giving away autonomy+ and the tow package with the Launch Edition. And they have a big enough backlog of customers who won't get any extras.

They have to paint every vehicle. So that means there should never be an upcharge for any color?
I think they idea of "Launch Green" is to have a special and exclusive color rather than a second option for free paint.

It's how they charge for Rivian R1 paint options so it shouldn't be a surprise. Channeling everyone into a common color makes life easier in the paint shop. You're paying extra for the manufacturing complexity and in some cases very low volume.

Hopefully they can get some costs down for some of the basic color paints that are sold in higher volume.

Bexasue everything ELSE about the LE is NOT variable.. so all the BOM and assembly points and process, same.. that leads to production efficiency and optimization - and understanding but eases complexity as production ramps. Ppl AND machines. The VARIABLE piece is the color and for a paint shop that’s FAIRLY easy to switch out, they’ll batch for sure by DOW or WEEK, but still it’s a variable that slows throughput and efficiency, so mama needs to get paid, and well its high margin.
