I'll believe it when i see it. i highly doubt it will be available in mid 2022. probably as much chance as the RAN being completed by end of 2023.

Pretty sure webasto Isn’t supplying it.

Webasto set up an entirely new factory to build the bronco roofs, which was so dysfunctionally managed Ford had to take over operations management to get it back on track.
Much of my family worked at Webasto. I'd never trust anything they put together. ?

Seriously though, that place is just waiting on it's next lawsuit.

One really has to wonder why Rivian is trying to do so much. Why put resources into a removable roof?? Build some cars first! You would have hoped they learned a lesson from the tonneau cover debacle but apparently not.

I'm not sure how I feel about Rivian with Targa tops. In my youth I owned at least 3 vehicles with one and though I enjoyed them immensely, I do recall what a nightmare it was to maintain it. I'd rather not go through that with my Rivian, especially considering how new the Rivians are in the automotive world. Currently, I am content with what is on the Rivians as is.

Tonneau cover debacle? How many customers have issues with them? Or is it possible the pre-production models have had issues that Rivian has already addressed and fixed?

yeah Rivian’s designers and engineers are really bottlenecking production by designing something 5 years ago and not getting on the floor to build something else today.

Yes, indeed. We already factually know that the issue with the tonneau cover slowed production and required at least some early customers to have their R1Ts serviced w/ a repair.

Rivian has finite resources to devote to manufacturing and is not yet approaching their own production goals. Rivian has stated they are having staffing issues due to COVID. By definition, if they allocate even some of those resources to designing & implementing a new feature it will slow production. If that feature runs into problems, as the tonneau cover did, that will add delays. Adding a removable roof of all things isn't something you can just go "let's add this!" and throw into the mix, it requires redesigns, safety testing, post-production QC, servicing standards, etc etc..

Adding a trip computer screen? Okay, yeah, that's just software guys. But a removable roof requires a lot of testing, new production & QC protocols, new materials, equipment, etc.. In a world where we're trying to figure out if getting different color paint will delay our orders, it feels unneccessary.

It's okay to like & support Rivian and disagree with some of their decisions. When people's deliveries are getting pushed back again and again and again, it's fair to question why they're introducing an option that requires significant testing, that most won't use, rather than focusing on getting preorders out.

Later. But maybe only q1 2023.
I am not expecting mine until later in 2023, i might as well want removable roof and max pack. A built in sunshade would even be nicer. That would be a perfect bug netting if glass roof is removed. C’mon Rivian!

Can't blame someone for that, Bronco hardtops seem like a mess, and their soft tops are having trouble in snow storms. But Jeep has been doing it for years. Although I wouldn't want Jeeps solution for a $75k vehicle. And for those who say you can option a Jeep for $75k, I still wouldn't want Jeeps solution for a $75k vehicle.
Just drove a Wrangler softmtop all weekend. What an absolute joke their system is.

I have a two door soft top Wrangler. It's a great second vehicle. But not necessarily what I want to commute everyday in, or take on an extended road trip. I usually don't take the top down, just take the back and sides off, safari style, top off can be too much sun for me. I do plan on keeping the Wrangler when the Rivian arrives, at least for now. I would probably prefer the Rivian with a solid metal roof also, no glass whatsoever.

I'm starting to feel better about my Max Pack not being available until next year now. By that time most of the bugs should be gone and there should be a nice list of new features available to choose from.

Rivian should keep their eye on the prize and optimize battery tech/charging curve vs chase every squirrel (Ebikes, targa roof, stripper poles, etc).

JMO. Stay focused, grasshopper.

I made the mistake of visiting Audi Denver today. As others around the US will likely chime in, they have zero new cars in the showroom or on the lot. If one wants to order a RSQ8 or SQ8 or Etron GT it realistically could take a year or more to get it. They are marking up any certified vehicles well above MSRP cause "that is market". Unless it is my/your used car, then they'll step on your neck.
