Did Rivian ever make progress on the V2V charging? Long promised and something I would find extremely useful. (I am less excited about V2H because of silly-expensive and proprietary gateway equipment required.)

  • We can confirm that all R1T and R1S (including vehicles in customer possession today) will be capable of Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) charging. We’ll share more details on this bidirectional charging capability in the future, but no timeline to share beyond that at this moment.

I am the opposite of you, really really interested in the V2H feature. I live in MA along the coast and it's either that or a whole house generator - done with the power outages. My new friend ChatGPT says with my current set up, it will actually be cheaper to install the V2H vs. generac etc. so that's the plan. But not if it takes Rivian years longer to roll out.

Depending on your power requirements, you may be able to use the excellent work done by @mudito for a V2H solution: How to use your Rivian as a Power Bank (safe way)

The most expensive single component in the setup is the "buffer battery" that you'll need between the Rivian and your house, but that's something that you could sell when Rivian finally does release it's V2H solution. I'm looking at the Pecron 3000LFP ($799) to functionally do the same thing while tailgating (go get around the 1500W limit of the Rivian inverter).

This is a great community - take advantage of the knowledge here if you can't wait for Rivian to hand it to you.

From what I've seen in the forum, @mudito is really friendly and helpful. You'll probably need the help of an electrician for the transfer switch and the other thing you'll need to figure out is if you need to power everything in the house or just a few outlets.
