Is anyone planning to go off-roading with the R2? This will be my first off-road vehicle. I see that the R1T All-Terrain Package includes a full-size spare tire, while the R1S All-Terrain Package includes a compact spare. From videos, it’s hard to tell whether a full-size or compact spare will fit in the R2’s spare tire compartment. Since Rivian offers a compact spare as an option, I’m assuming the R2 won’t fit a full-size spare. What have R1S owners done for off-roading to provide an additional safety net in event of a damage tire?

Some get a spare tire mount that attaches to the hitch like a bike carrier. I set the full-size spare inside the trunk of the R1S, upright in the sub-trunk. I think those are the main options, maybe up top on a roof rack.

I use a hitch-mounted swing-away spare tire carrier like this one by RiG’D.

Only fits a compact spare, but the hole under the spare looks large enough that an upright tire might fit back there without blocking everything. I haven't been near an R2 to measure anything yet.

I removed my 2nd and 3rd row seats and used an old Rhino rack to build a sleeping platform. My spare tire stores underneath the platform (or up on top of my Overland Ruffrax roof rack). I also upgraded to Toyo Open Country RT Pro tires.

Highly doubt the R2 will fit a full size spare in the tire compartment. I've see hitch carrier, roof rack or just stored in the back with tie downs.

For 13K miles on AT tires and stuff on the roof rack, average 2.13 miles/kWh.

I’d say 75% of those miles were highway speeds of 70-80 mph, the rest is city or off-roading.

The last 500 miles with addition of the hitch mounted tire carrier - 1.98 miles/kWh.

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
I don't think it's been officially confirmed (I could be wrong), but pretty sure the R2 will only fit a compact spare. Save to assume since it's smaller than the R1S and it can't fit a full size spare.
There definitely appears to be a cutout for a compact spare in the sub trunk. They’ll probably sell that accessory separately on the Gear Shop, or as part of an off-road bundle, like the R1. Better than nothing.

If people want a full-size spare they’ll just have to mount it on the back or the roof. I’m sure there will be third-party solutions.
