I was solely Tesla owner from 2015 until 2022 when I got the first R1T's that came out, and now on my second R1T. We still have a Tesla (my wife's Model 3) and we're upgrading hers for the R2.

But I have no problem owning Tesla again in the future. I couldn't care less what a CEO of a company does regarding whether I purchase a product or not. Do any of us know what the CEO's of kitchenaid, dyson, samsung, etc are like? Yet most of us still buy those brands without looking into whether the CEO's are stand-up people or not.
The reason we don't know about them is instructive: They don't make a$$e$ of themselves publicly. You want to make sure I know you are a despicable human? Don't be surprised when I treat you that way.

There is no way to live the life we want without people who are the worst of us, getting richer off us.
I agree with this to a certain degree, but ... there is some threshold of the

EvildoerIndex+CanILiveWithoutTheirStuff

sum calculation beyond which an ethically-motivated choice is absolutely compelling, at least to me.

I sincerely hope that R2's combination of stylistic appeal, drive quality, software and price finally yields a not-lacking-in-any-respect alternative to any Tesla for any reason. MElon's EvildoerIndex has been approaching Inf for me for many years, and hopefully CanILiveWithoutTheirStuff will soon trend that way also for everybody else.

You'll always going to have the brand loyal crowd, The TSLA and Twitter DBags that'll ride or promote Tesla to the end.

1) Most CEOs didn't openly bribe the general public directly to vote a certain way, multiple times for multiple elections essentially committing election interference and only got away with due to a technicality despite clear intent.
2) Most CEOs didn't join the white house staff as a government official, hold massive conflict of interest with billions of government contracts and was allowed to stop any investigation against their companies.
3) Most CEOs did not get into a position of power that cut USAID that killed thousands
4) Most CEOs did not fire thousands of government employees for no real reason and worsen almost every agency that suffered from those job losses that included: weather alert, water quality monitoring, EPA, IRS (which was staffed to go after rich people to pay their taxes and now don't have that man power this year), Veteran Affairs, and social security
5) Ask a specific someone to go to a certain island on Christmas morning
6) Stole social security information on purpose and everyone knows about it
7) Made the remaining government workers work environment hostile and continues to this day. I know from personal experience.
8) Gutted the entire government to "save money" but essentially saved no money, made the entire system weaker, and a lot less benefit for the American people
9) Did a certain salute that Germany frowns upon on stage
10)Built an illegal power plant to power his data center and is literally poisoning residents
11) Did all of the above, is known public fact, is known by name and face, and still faced no legal consequence for any of this and was rewarded with a trillion dollar pay package

This is very public information that wasn't done behind closed doors andmajority of the public knows about these things. There isn't a comparison. Most people do not know the names and faces of CEOs their daily lives, their beliefs, or the possibly shady things they do. If this is the stuff we know Musk is doing, there is likely a lot more things we don't know. This is knowing and choosing not to care and enabling a company for not ousting him out.

Also, I refuse to purchase anything if the CEO begged to be on that island. The fact that is constantly glossed over is disturbing.

Yep, current owner of 2018 model 3, I paid for FSD but I'm on HW3 so I only have half of a working FSD and generally don't use it much. Looking forward to the R2 but I might just wait for the Tri-Motor version if I can bear it.
I'm in a similar boat - sub-100K VIN M3, stuck with FSD v12.x, and tired of Musk.
I'm just waiting for the Lidar and the light interior before I get my Borealis R2.

I love my Tesla Y Performance. The FSD is what I use 90% of the time and going to an EV was an epiphany. Literally felt like time travel to the future. But I love Overlanding and even though I put Methods/AT tires, drawer system, bed, etc, it just isn’t built for what I want. I want an electric 4Runner and when the R2 was announced, it’s like RJ read my mind. The R1 was always way out of my price range and too big for me.

All that to say, I’m so stoked to get the R2 and the icing on the cake is to buy a product from as CEO I can respect.

Deliveries cannot start fast enough! And still holding out hope that they do cloud interior for launch edition. A man can dream!
I'm the same boat. While I've been able to stuff my MYP with luggage it really struggled last year when we took a vacay during the Xmas holidays. Gifts, luggage and all were too much for MYP.

That is what I like the good ol square shaped SUV design that R2 provides, as you can stack more crap since it's not a hatchback like MY. Too bad the launch edition will not have LIDAR.

Every time Elon gets brought up, the thread goes to $hit and doesn't comeback to the original subject.

Do you own a Tesla and are you or are you not trading in for R2?

So many reviews talks about the volume in term of ft^3 or liters without any discussion of the form factor.

So many CUV/SUV nowadays have coupe style slope back that loses practical usability. My wife is a big fan of two-box SUV and that's the primary reason why we own R1S. Since the R1S is bit too big for us, if R2 had been around, she definitely would have gone for that. We bought ours in 2023 when our number came up.

I need to replace my Model 3 so R2 is not in our future as of now. I am looking at a Taycan as a suitable replacement currently.

Tesla is just all around better in Technology, performance, comfort and charging. But they are lacking an actual SUV type vehicle with that extra little bit or room and cargo space. The R2 will excel in this category. Legacy auto will be the one's shaking in their boots as the R2 eat's the lunch of Honda's CRv, Toyota Rav4, Hyundai Santa fe, GM Equinox ect...
The R2 Won't get the lions share of that segment though and will have some tough competition with the The Model Y-L. It's a little taller and longer reaching almost the size of a Model X yet priced as a Model Y and will be a 3row 6seater.
Y-L will be arriving soon enough. In fact Giga Texas is literally shut down right now for retooling. speculated Cybercab full production, and/or Model Y-L). FYI. That's Why Tesla built an extra 50k vehicles this quarter. Inventory for during this shut down, not because they over produced more vehicles they can sell. They "intentionally" made more cars!

Giga Texas is producing the Cybercab. The Y is also produced at Freemont. Cybertruck is only produced in Texas. Will Tesla cancel the Cybertruck due to lousy sales?

2024 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Dual Motor, 2023 Tesla Model Y Long Range
Bought my first Tesla in 2021 (a Model 3), and our second in 2023 (a Model Y). We’ve been a two Tesla house ever since then. I then replaced my Model 3 with a Highland in 2024.

Now I’m replacing the Highland with a 2025 R1T Dual Motor Max Pack that’s being shipped to my local CarMax. I’m keeping the R2 reservation to replace my wife’s Model Y in the next year or two.

The funny thing is that I went to my local Rivian service center to test drive the R1S and R1T just to get a feel for what I was getting into with Rivian. But I ended up falling in love with the R1T (I absolutely HATED the way the R1S drove).

My only concerns going in are software quality (Tesla software has been rock solid for me) and reliability (our three Teslas have been practically bulletproof over a commulative 100,000+ miles).

Funny you mention wifey. Mine is now glamouring for a MX now that it's no longer in production. She liked the gimmickly falcon doors. I rented a MXP and did a trip from Vegas to Grand Canyon, sadly the doors did not open up when we stopped over in Kingsman, AZ to take a pic at the Route 66 sign. Good times.

Cybertruck is not being cancelled. The factory is just underutilized compared to it's full capacity. They are developing a full size 3row luxury SUV (Cyber SUV) to run on that same platform and line.
That SUV will be to the cybertruck as the R1S is to the R1T.
As far as "cancelling" the cybertruck due to lousy sales....Rivians sales are worse!! Last year 2025 Tesla sold 20,300 Cybertrucks, Rivian only sold 42,247 vehicles "grand total" R1T, R1S and delivery vans. R1T accounted for only about 7416....and they've had a 5yr head start. Rivian sales are actually the one's that been pretty lousy with no growth for 5yrs now.
