Before I decided to lease, I did a lot of research, including lurking here for ~ 3 months. The result was me being 100% prepared for inconveniences when it came to service. The closest SC was 50 miles (but at least 1 1/2 drive around the Beltway), so I knew that going in. Luckily, they’ve opened a new SC that’s only 10 minutes from work, and no further from home than the MB & Audi dealers.

But…maybe I got a unicorn, as I’ve had only 3 trips to the SC: one to get the PTC installed (which I combined with my 7,500 mile checkup), one for a recall issue (knuckle bolts?), and my most recent 22,500 checkup. All have been drama-free, and done in a timely manner. For overnight work I’ve had a loaner (Quad T), a rental (A5), and for the 4-hour job, an Uber to/from work. Zero complaints.

"Not a lot of car for the value" isn't a meaningful sentence. Stating that it's "not a lot of car" is a value statement by itself. I can only assume you mean "Not a lot of car for the price". I disagree with that. 835 hp, 5 to 7 seats, serious off-road chops, extensive tech features. Some of that may be of no value to you, but it is of great value to others.

I have seen this play many times, I guess I am old. When I was younger and wealthier, I would buy bleeding edge tech. It did help I was in tech. Many a product was cool and buggy. I look back now and almost all of those companies are gone. My adoption/money helped move tech forward. The first iPhone sucked and I could not wait to upgrade. I can't believed I traded my Startac for that junk. At least that is how I felt then.

I consider Rivian a cutting edge company with their "software-defined vehicle" software. It is not bleeding edge because of Tesla.

This is not rocket science, it is still difficult.

Your last sentence is the key. If you live near a service center it’s not so bad. I’m 3 hours one way in no traffic from the closest one. Rivian used to go out of their way to acknowledge that and accommodate it but now they are scaling way back on their customer service. I get it, that level of service is expensive, but I cannot live this far away and continue to deal with it.
This.

I sold my 1st Rivian because service was 1.5-3hr/ea way. Needing to engage service for something simple was just dreadful and basically required me to burn a vacation day. I ended up selling mine.

Fast forward 2 years and the service is now a 30mim drive for me. I don’t mind spinning up small tickets anymore, and I can be a lot more flexible with timing if they need to push me out. The reduced workload on the SC also allowed us to get to know each other and they’re a great bunch and perfectly willing to respond via the app messages even before my appointment. It truly changed the ownership experience.

Definitely seems like you should sell your Rivian.

My vehicles have almost zero "bugs", and I have no issues directly messaging and communicating with my SC while my vehicle is there for service. Additionally, the main number team is actually great at getting back to me with answers or solutions if I have an issue, usually same day.

I miss the days where if you didn't like a car you would just move on and sell it. Now the whole world apparently has to know.

Everyone has their own experience. While service was rough in the first 18 months the last 20 have been amazing. If I need service they are responsive and get the issue resolved. contacting the center isn't tough since it is the 800 number for Rivian and they get to the center for me.

People love to complain but they hardly compliment. Rivian service has gone through some growing pains but it is on par with most of brands, save the true high end ones. I owned Audis for years, no better or worse than that; which was fine for me.

Service is still awesome if you have an issue that prevents your vehicle from being drivable. Of course those issues are at the expense of every other problem, since they have to keep room in the schedule to accommodate the big issues.

The "not a lot of car for the money" from the OP is the most inaccurate thing I've read today.
You might be a little dilusional

You might be a little delusional if you think service is awesome:). Not by most standards when it comes to luxury car brands. Rivian try’s to squeeze themselves in to many categories but luxury needs to be removed. Value is accurate if you compare what you can get for an all wheel drive gas car for 100k. If you compare to it to an electric in its category there are really none and that is why I bought it. Dont kid yourselves, once that car went to market there were better ones in its place.
Service will be it’s down fall not the car.

I am one hour from my SC, when I got my car I had an hickup with some issues but overall it’s been fine. My issue is customer service period. Or the lack of it. Distance was fine.

Your initial post says "lots of bugs that always need fixing", but now it's "just a few issues"?

Which is it?

2025 Rivian R1T - Large. Delivered on November 23, 2024.

2025 R1T-Dual Large. No issues here. No problems with ordering, delivery or service. I feel it is a lot of incredibly well designed and constructed vehicle for the money. I am 18 months into ownership. My R1T drives, rides and sounds as good as it did when I took delivery. Virtually no wear in the mechanics. My local Canton MA Service Center has been superb, and the mobile service was top notch. I would highly recommend the brand.

There maybe inconsistent experiences. I'm on my 3rd year of ownership. Never had an issue with service or communication. I can always get an appointment. In fact, I had to reschedule three times because of my travel and the SC was very accommodating. Every single person I have interacted with at Rivian, from the SC to the remote employees, have been consistently good experiences.

Wow this place is really going into the tubes. Already there are very few quality posts that actually contribute to anything but complaining. Why not buy a XXX vehicle may be the most useless thread to throw on the forum about the XXX brand whether Rivian, Ferrari or anything else.

Just get rid of your vehicle and be done with it.

Don't buy a Rivian because of Zombies.

Picture yourself running to your car because of Zombies and the car doesn't unlock for you, and you start doing the Rivian dance. The dance a lot of us owners do when the vehicle isn't registering the fob/phone/etc.

I own 2 Rivian's, An R1T QM and R1S QM. No problems and my SC is very communicative when I have had to replace windshields and standard inspections. I also think you have the value proposition wrong. Rivian has a very unique nice for the buyer in this price category. Its the primary reason Rivian is the #1 car by volume in cars $80k plus.
It’s not about volume it’s about the whole package car, service etc.

there now people should know how awful their service is and you can’t deny it. The service is not about distance it’s about service to the Rivians car owners. People who researched like I did need to know. I leased mine for this exact reason, so I could give it back if the company was awful. Quality posts ? Complaining listen here buckaroo if no one posts these types of posts how do people do the research if this is a decent company.
