My wife showed me this article. It involves Rivian charging at Yosemite.

https://www.torquenews.com/1/attorn...n-l2-chargers-showed-him-whats-wrong-how-were

I thought it was funny because yesterday I had to return a gas loaner to a Honda dealership and it took me 3 attempts to pump!
First gas station of a brand I had never heard of authorized card but would not pump gas. I drove to a Chevron close by and the first pump would not read my card. I had to go inside to pre-pay. Not having bought gas since last year I guessed too little and didn’t get the required full tank. I switched to another pump rather than go back to pre-pay again and topped off successfully.

Pumping gas sucks. I wouldn’t recommend a gas car to anybody LOL.

Why would he choose to pay at a waypoint EVSE, when he can charge for free at the campsite?
Yes

Why write a story with such a big conclusion based on one guy’s anecdote?

I'll say right up front that I did not read the article.

I started looking at the pictures on the website and can easily see that they are both AI generated. They show supposedly Rivian vehicles that are obviously not Rivians and those that look like Rivians plugged into chargers with the charger connections in places where there is no charge port.

Trash article in my opinion.

As far as the pumping gas anecdote goes, I have had that happen to me a couple times in my lifetime. It's a credit card system issue. Doesn't have anything to do with that you were buying gas.

The article's shortcomings may have obscured its important points:

(1) Payment and tracking mechanisms introduce multiple failure points to public charging systems.
(2) Cumulatively, these failure points discourage EV adoption.
(3) Chargers could be programmed to switch to free, non-tracked charging when they detect failed sessions that aren't the user's fault.
(4) If chargers defaulted to free charging, it would incentivize system managers to prioritize reliability.
(5) Prioritizing reliability would speed EV adoption.

Best to all!
