Order sheet check box permutations are totally irreverent. The 2 wheel choices on LE are a trivial addition to manufacturing complexity. The vehicles could potentially ship with one wheel or even steel wheels and be swapped to the customer choice just before delivery. GM did exactly that with Escalades a few years back. For the customer it is "just" a white or black interior color check box on the order sheet but for Rivian there are dozens of individual interior components that need to be sourced specific to that choice: seats, dash, headliner, carpet, door cards, etc. As the assembly line and suppliers of those components ramp up to only have one color to focus on vastly simplifies manufacturing and logistics.
Exactly - multiple parts for that one check box vs some wheels. Not sure what part he isn’t buying in the complexity of an additional interior.

Come on...There is a very significant difference between:

"No Coastal Cloud at the time of Launch"
and
"No Coastal Cloud for Launch Editions"

Obviously we'll find out in June (not so far away, even if they wait until the end of June) when the configurator opens up. I think what will happen is that we'll configure what we want (Glacier White, 20" wheels, and Coastal Cloud interior for us) and then we'll find out when we might be able to get what we configured. In a hurry? Clearly the black interior will be offered first, so configure your order accordingly.
This aligns with a text convo I had with a Rivian rep last month. Nothing guaranteed until officially announced, but I think you're right.

I hope that's correct. I'm an early reservation holder and currently in an R1S lease. I would like both a launch edition and the light interior. Since I have quite a few months left on my lease, I'd happily configure an LE with a light interior even if it meant waiting a few extra months for my R2. If it means miss out on a launch edition though, I'm more likely to just take the dark interior.

Nothing stopping you configuring a performance model with the light interior. The only change is the “free” included items.

Huh, I didn't really think about having an early reservation and being able to order a non-LE. In my head (which is a dark and confusing place ...), I was thinking that the initial reservation offering would only be LE models (for some X amount of time, where if you passed on the LE, you were basically ejected from the queue).

The included autonomy+ & tow package with LE might sway some folks to just deal with the black interior 🤷🏻‍♂️ .

Yeah, I'm not sure, autonomy+ "free" sub, nice, but not a major factor for us, I'd definitely want to the tow package, which being added at your cost plus the (assuming) extra for the Coastal Cloud interior, you might be looking at $2500 or more difference?

If there was a crazy-insane bright exterior, I'd balance that out with the black interior (like a really vibrant orange or yellow), but otherwise, the light interior would be better/great with many of the colors we're seeing.

I've loved our rides with a light interior, just makes it so visually roomy and airy, and so many black/dark interiors have very little color range, so it's just sea of black ...

I’d do the Coastal Cloud if the headliner were black. My current vehicle has a light grey headliner and it gets very dirty! Not a fan of dealing with that.

You could generalize this question with regard to just about any configuration, and I would certainly love to know the answer to that general question. In my case for instance, I want a Premium with LIDAR and (to keep this thread on-topic, of course, let's say a CC interior). When my reservation pops to the top of the main queue, if any one of these things is still not available, does Rivian:

(1) Add me to the end of a special Premium+LIDAR+CC build queue?

(2) Cancel my reservation or send me to the back of the main queue, which I suppose are effectively the same thing?

Same here. Hopefully the wait will not be long, and hopefully choosing the light interior does not jeopardize getting the LE.

I'm guessing most of you received this as well: A Closer Look: R2 Performance with Launch Package
I’m totally good with this. After waiting a couple years, I’m good waiting a few more months to get the color options I want. I’m glad that they confirmed that you can do the cloud interior and still be launched edition. Not ideal but I’m OK with it.
