I remember my 1996 Ducati Monster had carbon parts that turned brown after a few summers in Sacramento, CA. The UV protection has come a long way. I am not a fan of the giant sun magnifying roof, nor are my dogs.

Does anyone know of a metal option, or at least partially metal? They don't seem to be considering antenna mounting with these new car designs.

Now make a version that slides open, or has removable panels!
I would pay absurd amounts of money for an opening sunroof on a Rivian. #1 feature I miss on this vehicle that I've had on others. Thought it wouldn't be a big deal, it's not a "deal breaker" for all future vehicles.

I sooooo miss my sunroof :(

Get your wallet out.

Get the Carbon Fiber roof and then install a high quality aftermarket sunroof.

Hijacking a bit, but any discussions about making one for the rear/3rd row glass in the R1S? I like my big glass roof in the pax compartment, but I would honestly prefer the rear stay dark full time. Just curious. :)
Yes we are working on the R1S, however it is still in development and we will definitely in the future offer options for the two glass roofs on the R1S. What takes time is the fine tuning of the Carbon Fiber Roof with our acoustic foam core, it took us multiple iterations for the development of the current Symphonic Carbon Roof for the R1T until we got much better quality sound in the cabin. And here we have two different roof so it could take some time. We will keep you posted.

Thanks, and exciting. Good news is I don't plan on ditching my S for a long long time, so take your time lol.

If my glass breaks, I will absolutely install a CF replacement.

First thing I think of is our 2014 BMW i3 with its carbon fiber roof failing and peeling due to UV exposure.
I bet it would pass the Kim Java test, even now. And I'm sure it outlasted the glass roof on my R1T, which is currently shattered. And, you most likely have the option to repair your carbon fiber roof at substantially less cost than replacing a glass roof.
But I'm glad you posted those pics - it was interesting to see what had happened to your roof, over time. Makes me want to lean toward the premium version of this carbon fiber roof.

Just one's opinion but I think you may find a bigger selling point is improved thermal insulation vs music. Maybe this ends up as a second product with much thinker insulation between the layers and a measured R-value. A half inch of foam would be my choice instead of a direct fit allowing for same shade access. But I haven't tested the heat gain/loss through the roof vs the rest of the vehicle.

Ouch that's rough.
Was it hard to find a Solar Orange tennis ball?
Not too hard. My wife says in her go cart. Our HS school auto tech teacher friend says is a roller skate. This was our first EV. Bought it last September when I started looking for a Rivian. My wife said I could buy an EV without checking with her first if I could get one under $5000. Challenge accepted! I happily paid $4200 for this old BEV. My wife loves “Boogie” - It’s Electric - for her two mile commute to school so we really didn’t need the range in that small daily driver.

It took me until December to find my R1T and as I continue to watch prices and miles both go up for pre-owned Rivians, I think I timed my purchase fairly well - and I’m super happy with the truck. Purposefully over-sizing our solar panels last April certainly plays into this as well. Even living here in northern Virginia we never went into negative territory last year. Let’s see how the coming year - first one with two EVs in the garage - works out for us but we’ve enjoyed paying the $8.14/month grid connection fee for the past year.

How did your glass roof break? I was stationed in Riyadh Saudi Arabia for a year and we had a few GMC Yukon windows blow out due to heat building up inside when folks closed all windows and left their trucks outside in the scorching summer heat.

It appears to have been a rock impact. I recall once when a rock appeared to hit near the top of the windshield. It made a sound loud enough that I expected to at least see a chip or star crack, but I never found a corresponding impact point. Months later I noticed that the pano glass was cracked all over, with an impact point near the back edge. I keep a heatshield up inside my cabin, so I almost never see the pano glass from the inside.
Odd about the Yukons. I live in southern Arizona. The Rivian cabins are sealed very well, and temperatures get very hot here, but I've never heard anyone mention that they thought that had happened to their Rivian. Perhaps there is a pressure relief valve. in the cabin somewhere.

It is substantial. Park your Rivian in the sun for awhile, and then touch the underside of the pano glass - it will be hot - so the pano glass is radiating and convecting heat into the cabin. Then touch the headliner anywhere, it won't be all that hot, comparatively.
And even though most of the UV and IR is probably blocked (along with some of the visible light) by the pano glass, the light that does pass through will become heat energy after it is absorbed (I feel it on my head).
