Agreed. The Volvo is also a less divisive in the looks department. Inside and out.

Depending on how quickly we can get the P12 or Cross Country trim in the states, I might end up waiting. Out of everything coming out in the next few months, the EX60 is likely the closest competitor.

The iX3 is a spec monster but I'm finding myself trying to convince myself that I don't hate the looks more than anything. On paper it should be my next car but wow did they make far too many choices I do not agree with on the design front.
I love Volvo’s ethos of using sustainable and recycled materials. The interior and exterior is more attractive, I agree. I love the minimalist interior. If the P10 is truly $58k and the P12 is sub $65k, I may have to put a deposit down on it as well and go with whatever EV test drives the best

I'm coming from an R1S, so both vehicles seem like a deal. My biggest complaints of our R1S are ride quality, squeaks and rattles, and slow charging speeds. The iX3 will address all of those issues, but I'm not sure the R2 will. Definitely not with charging speeds, but we will see if the R2 is a better ride and better built than the Gen 1 R1S (in terms of squeaks and rattles).
Yeah, not sure of the iX3 since I don't own one, but our iX is a tank, rattle free (at 2+ years), it's like a vault, in fact:

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/g64252909/quietest-cars-tested/

That's a big concern abiout a Rivian for me, I had an R1S on reservation years ago, no SC around here, but I was hearing way too many QC issues, etc., for a vehicle that's $100K+, what I was hearing was unacceptable.

We at least got the SC issue resolved, one here, and we're mid-move (splitting time between both places at the moment, yes, I am wound up :D ), but we'll be in DTO, two SCs close by.

Because of the difference in looks, price, and size differences between the R2 and the iX3, I'm a little shocked people are cross shopping them. The R2 is the boxy, affordable SUV I and many others want. The iX3 is just a gross looking egg. Might as well just get a Model Y L when it comes to the USA soon.
We're cross shopping. Price is about the same (and I'm certain BMW lease options will be better), and the differences are something we're evaluating as the time gets closer. We might lean into the more SUV styling, we might want what the BMW offers in the interior/options and it includes things like CarPlay - heck, even the owner/service experience, that's a major point with us.

I guess my point: they're closer than not, i.e., we're not cross shopping an F-150 and a Z4 :D

Also, I'd rather walk than drive another Tesla :p

Everything you said can be summed up in your own statement: "I'm a BMW enthusiast" and "long time BMW fan." Which is perfectly fine. Fair play to you. But if you're not a BMW enthusiast the iX3 is very off putting IMO.
Interesting. A family friend who has not gone EV yet, hasn't (AFAIK) owned a BMW, recently asked about the iX3 (I guess we're the group's "EV experts" :D ), not only for the range/charging perks (which I guess crossed a threshhold for them), but also because, "I love how it looks" and "The interior is amazing"

I thought September/October time. Production started a couple of weeks ago and European deliveries first.

If the P12 all up is under $70k, I'm in. That likely won't come until later though. The EX60 checks all the boxes for me. Heck, if the EX90 had 350+ miles of actual range I'd consider too. I really dig how the Volvos (and Polestars) look. I considered the Polestar 3 for a while but the range just doesn't cut it on the dual motor models. I'd pay the premium for the P12 over the R2 performance if the price difference all up ends up being less than $10k. I think that trade off is worth it.

From what I've been able to find, they are also saying summer 2026 for deliveries. It is kind of funny how this has played out. Basically anyone shopping in this category can expect their vehicles late summer.

To each his/her own of course. Love the BMW specs, hate the looks and the price. To me it looks like the iX3 and EX60 are "squished" SUV's, almost like a long car, and I personally hate it. I want a boxy SUV like a Lexus GX550 (without the engine problems  ). The iX3 looks way better than the EX60 though...EX60 interior and rear exterior is brutally bad. $10k+ difference to R2 premium is a lot of money despite what the internet tells (proverbial) you that everyone is wealthy lol.

Am I the only one who noticed how wildy different the ranges are for the same wheels on summer vs all season tires? 434 for summer and 383 for all season. That is CRAZY different. So you only get this amazing range on summer tires? Man that feels like a bait and switch. Am I wrong about that?

I truly don't know anything about this, so I am asking honestly. Are you at all worried about the Polestar/Volvo software issues? I heard it was pretty bad, but I don't know the extent of it, and I don't know if it is fixed

I heard the same horror stories but based on my research, it sounds like it is a lot more stable now and should be a lot better going forward as I believe the new cars are coming with a new CPU available that is available as retrofit for older vehicles.

The EX60 in particular is a hard reset for Volvo and it will be software defined so it is expected to get regular software updates. I have never owned either product to verify but based on what I've seen on forums, it sounds like things are getting better in that front.

Your question is one not answered on their FB page, despite many others asking and other conversations. If you use the International site, they are now quoting at least 12 months for a P12 for Europeans, and the US site does not yet have a build/configure page and ordering is not yet open. By the time Americans can order, delivery seems most likely at least a year away. If that suits your timeline, it may work well, as the car seems quite buttoned-up. It was too long for me. P10 and P6 would be available sooner, but I wanted to stay with P12 only as CATL supplies those batteries while Sunwoda supplies the P6 and P10. CATL is the first to announce compliance with NP3.0 and has a better track record overall. Sunwoda may follow, but that was not yet reassuring for me.

On top of that, Volvo sound system is garbage.

The industry legend "Maximum" Bob Lutz ( C-Suite at BMW, Ford, GM, Chrysler) explained that polarizing designs are greatly successful when "love" 1)exceeds "hate and 2)aligns with plant capacity. It's better to have haters than for everyone to think of a vehicle as a second place "just ok/vanilla". At the cost of some hating, the goal is for others to "must have". Seems to be working in this case for both BMW and Volvo, as different as they are from each other. The Volvo may seem less divisive, but it's also getting online comments about being dull or boring from some at the other end of the spectrum, causing rejection from those seeking something newer and more exting. Of course, residents of Sweden, Norway, Finland are flocking to Volvo as well in these early orders.

https://evdances.com/blogs/news/volvo-ex60-orders-surge-forcing-higher-2026-production-plans

It's great overall when both approaches are generating high demand for these new EVs and the buyers will sort themselves out psychographically in addition to weighing other pros/cons, such as price, existing dealer relationships, etc.

Is that so? Based on every review I've seen, I have heard the complete opposite.

Tesla is quickly turning into the Toyota equivalent of EVs. Mostly curious about the software UI for BMW and Volvo.

The HK sound system in the XC90 that I recently drove was subpar. My Gen 2 T premium was much more impressive.
I will say that I have not heard the B&W system. What’s the cost to upgrade to B&W?

$800 on the XC90. $3200 option on the EX90 though but I have heard that one is excellent.
