Gross looking egg is quite the critique coming from a Model 3 owner.
100% Rivian needs to release the configurator. Everyone needs to know how much options will cost before making a final decision.
I don’t have any loyalty to Rivian. I drive them, but at the end of the day, I’m a consumer and happy to switch cars as they come about.

The iX3 has a typical boxy SUV profile. Not sure where the "egg" shape comment is coming from. It essentially looks like an X3 or X5 from the side. I understand the front can be polarizing, but as a long time BMW fan, I like the throw back to the 1970s era BMWs.
Many of us on here are current Rivian owners (myself included, 2 times actually), and/or have R2 reservations (again myself included), and the iX3 is a very compelling alternative.
I don't need the off-roading capability, but I love the look and style of Rivians, and really like the brand. However, I'm also a BMW enthusiast, and lean more towards luxury over off roading. The Model Y is truly an egg shaped CUV that has outdated battery tech, slow charging speeds, and doesn't offer many of the premium features of the iX3. So it's not even on my radar.

I haven't reserved an iX3 yet, but will probably put in an order later today. I'll keep the R2 and iX3 reservations until the R2 final configurator is released, but it is frustrating to not know the final prices. I also have no idea if I'll be able to get a launch edition or not.
Then that person has never bought a car - there's always a delivery fee attached to any vehicle sale, even if you happen to pick up the vehicle from the factory that it's made in (or the port that it arrives at if it's an import).

I just put my $1k down. Unless the Rivian comes in way cheaper we will get the iX3. The wife and kid likes the BMW more, so you know how these things go
Yeah or never bought a vehicle directly from the manufacturer before or is unfamiliar with the Rivian process. Which there are probably a lot of unfamiliar people with the process as there are about to be a lot of new Rivian owners
The battery tech and charging speeds of the R2 are my biggest concern honestly. Outside of that, I really like the R2 look, design, interior, etc. We have been very happy with our R1S outside of the few complaints I mentioned before, and generally, I would be happy to lease another Rivian. I also reserved the R2 a long time ago, when the iX3 wasn't even a possibility. So the recent release of the iX3 really changes things for us.
I like performance as much as the next person but it is only one aspect of the vehicle and if range, charging speed, additional color choices (interior and exterior), servicing availability and probably quality matter to you more than zero to sixty then I can see why people could migrate over to the iX3
This is exactly where I am. I am so incredibly disappointed that Rivian decided to embrace ten-year-old powertrain architecture. Everyone in the world are leaning forward into 800V+ (heck the Chinese are leaning into megawatt charging in the entry models) and Rivian decided to bet the entire company's future on leaning backwards to 2018 Tesla. I genuinely like so much about the R2, but I cannot deal with that combination of range and charging. Maybe if they offered a slow charging max pack like our R1S I might rethink, or a fast charging medium range pack like Hyundai might even get me to rethink (and I would happily pay an extra $10k for an 800V 110kwh real competitor!) but sadly I am not buying something in 2027 that has less real range and charging speed than the 2019 model Y.
