Rivian Assistant is coming to both Gen 1 and Gen 2 R1S and R1T.
I realize that, but if you don't subscribe to C+, then RivAss is not available. So for Gen 1 there are essentially no updates if you don't have C+.

From Release notes from YOUR site:

  • Rivian Assistant is available on vehicles that are actively subscribed to Connect+

If you want to view it that way, then sure.

Where does it say that?
The riviantrackr site tags some things as Gen2 only, but the section about the Rivian Assistant is not labeled that way.

The original post in this thread neglected to include the information about the assistant.

Rivian's announcement said it IS coming to Gen1 ... https://rivian.com/newsroom/article...ext-gen-autonomy-platform-deep-ai-integration
It clearly says that on the Riviantrackr site : https://riviantrackr.com/2026-15/

My Gen 2 suspension behavior changed in the last update. It takes a long time to full settle from Kneel by making a lot of noticeable adjustments. I hope this is fixed in the latest update.

Are there any other auto manufacturers that offer a vehicle integration such as this, free of charge? Granted we haven’t seen it yet, but based on the reviews it’s supposed to integrate well with many features of the vehicle. My 2020 X7 had a subscription.

In the demo it was made explicit that Assistant runs in two different ways: locally on your vehicle’s hardware for simple things like climate control, and remotely on a larger, more capable model for more complex behaviors. The second mode is clearly going to require Connect+, there just isn’t any way it could possibly work without an internet connection. I wonder if the local, more limited behaviors might be available without. It seems like it should be possible, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

This is my hope. I’ve turned Alexa off completely because (to me) it’s that bad.

Well they're not going to take away vehicle features that we've had for four years now.

I am sure I will still be able to ask the voice assistant to open the frunk, turn on the cameras, and perform other vehicle functions, and I am sure I will be able to navigate and stream using my phone as a hotspot.

If there is no Alexa integration anymore, then I will lose the ability to stream from my personal Plex server and a few other Alexa-specific things like control over which voice is used, but those aren't vehicle features, they are Alexa features. Hopefully RA has a bridge we can use like "Hey Rivian, ask Alexa to ..." That would be trivial to provide I think (I have programmed Alexa integrations before, so this statement is based on experience).

Rivian Assistant is going to have the same problems as Alexa unless Rivian does a better job of integrating with the vehicle functions.

The way it works currently is you can use your phone's hotspot to allow the vehicle to access the internet, without Connect+.

I think it's reasonable to assume the following:
  • Rivian Assistant functions that require connection to the broader internet AND interaction with existing C+ only features—likely will require C+ subscription.
  • Rivian Assistant functions that do not involve the above, and to do with control over native vehicle-side functions, or paired phone—do not require C+ subscription.
  • What is in release notes, probably meant: to get full RA functions, C+ subscription is required
What is not reasonable: Getting all worked up over speculation. Breathe. It's Friday. And unlike me, you probably haven't just been asked to work the whole weekend after pulling a few all-nighters with zero overtime pay. All-nighters, past age of 50, are not fun.

This is my assumption, as well. But I also have C+, so it doesn’t matter to me so much.

You say this now, but wait until you learn about all the new bugs and things they break in this one!
I'm just hoping my car becomes sentient and tries to kill me.

Fair. I could also see them making the full functionality require C+, simply because it’s got to be a fairly massive cost for them to develop, maintain, and host this feature. LLMs are not cheap, any AI you’re using right now is losing money on you.
