The car is in the Portland SC but no word what the clicking sound is from. This started about 6 months ago and doesn’t happen every time the car wakes up but only happens when the car is asleep like I’ve been away for an hour and walk up to it. It eventually stops and the heat/air starts working. Has anyone else had a similar issue and had it diagnosed?

Sounds a bit like the active shutters. Does it come from the front, just behind the grill?

It comes from the front of the car for sure but didn’t verify exactly where. If I had to guess it sounds like it comes from in front of the dashboard area of the car before the firewall

No insights to offer. Never happened with my 23 R1S. Please keep us posted on what they tell you. Good luck!

You should hear the clicking sounds from a Polestar 2 as it wakes up 😅

The car has shutters that open and close in the front. You can see them if you look past the front grill. Try and spray some wd40 dry lubricant on the hinges and see if that helps. Otherwise I’m not sure what the issue would be.

I had a MINI that occasionally did something similar. You wouldn't notice it when the engine was running because it was masked by engine noise. It turns out that it was the power brake pump building up/resroring pressure in the brake accumulator. Perfectly normal.
Perhaps Rivian will add a section to the manual about various sounds that you might hear to thr manual.

Wow, that's crazy. I'd think if you pop the frunk and hold your head in there you should be able to tell roughly where it's coming from. If it's the active shutters you should be able to see them through the grill. But you mentioned the heat / AC don't work? Maybe something caught in the area of the cabin air filter?

Good luck, let us know what you find out.

That's more of a squeaking scratching sound. OP's video, unless exaggerated by the device's mic, is more like hammering and tapping.

The sound is not exaggerated by my iPhone it is exactly as it sounds. I appreciate the SC communication on it but sounding more like they still have no idea what is happening after a week.

Here is the best I can give as to when it happens which seems random but has to have some kind of predictable process

1. It is always when the truck is asleep and waking up
2. It happens both at home and away and both when it is plugged in and disconnected
3. When it clicks it has to stop clicking before I can shift into reverse to drive. It creates a longer delay than when it doesn't click
4. The AC\Heating system doesn't work until the clicking stops as I can hear it kick on right after the clicking stops. If I had to guess it happens more often when the HVAC system is trying to cool right away vs heat.
5. As you can see hear in the video it is pretty loud and the issue is in the front of the car before the firewall as it is quieter when it clicks and I am in the car.

I welcome any ideas I can pass on to the SC as they are trying to figure it out.

I wonder if it's a electrical contactor/switch flipping back and forth.

The electrical switch contact is what it sounds like but what kind of switch would make such a loud contact sound?
