The assistant feature for Connect+ subscribers is pretty awesome. I already find value in my Connect+ subscription, and now it is even better. Thanks Rivian!

Now, what about Autonomy+? I don't see anything in the release "bullets" that indicates Autonomy+ is improved much at all, and definitely not enough to be worth $50/mo. IMO.

Am I off base?

Why would it be free? AI services cost money. Alexa+ isn't free, Grok, Anthropic, OpenAI, and everyone else charges as well.
So, me giving Rivian nearly six figures wasn't enough? In the future, we'll pay monthly subscriptions for helpful life-saving features like Oxygen and potable water, once the legislation written by the lobbyists working for the oligarchs passes both houses and is signed into law.

Found a leaked image of RA, the AI actually monitors onboard status and can offer proactive assistance, like "It looks like you are trying to adjust the vents, would you like some help?"

I'm still hoping that RA will be able to change most vehicle settings. @RivianTrackr, if you get the chance to test this, the one I'm most interested in is turning on/off Lane Keep Assist (LKA) by voice. Use case is that the LKA is super aggressive on a very twisty canyon road and I wind up just turning it off so it doesn't try to shunt me into a car crossing the center line if I have to keep it near the right edge of the road. Obviously navigating several levels deep in menus while on one of these roads isn't exactly safe, so being able to toggle that with voice would be cool!
It seems that for safety and autonomy features cannot be controlled via voice.

Rest in Hell, Alexa 😁
Yup. Asked Alexa to play some music today, responded with a completely different song, and what was actually played was entirely different than my request or the Alexa response. Between that and Aledxa intermittently not knowing where my R1T is located (only sometimes), I won't be sorry for Alexa to go.

Your position on this matter is absurd.

Being able to control things by voice in addition is not only a safety feature, but also an accessibility requirement and a huge convenience - unless of course you refuse to use it.

The current limitations on what Rivian allows Alexa to do are a little absurd, but voice control is really a necessity at this point in time. And good engineering practice as well, to hide complexity behind a natural language interface for use when operating the vehicle.
Sounds like a lot of solutions in search of problems.

We survived for decades without needing to control all the things, or text ,or whatever. Why do we need it now?

Maybe just drive and don't mess with all the things?

No Amazon Music once we switch to RA? So we're basically losing one of the few music services we have? Darn. That is unfortunate. Thank you for the info. 😢

I guess it saves me on one monthly subscription fee, at least. 😖

Editing to add: Guess that means we loose Pandora, too. Since iirc, it plays through Alexa. Geeze. 😭
You should still be able to stream from your phone and have some basic RA control, like volume. And whatever voice assistant you have on the phone to control the Amazon Music app on it?

Why do we need it now?
Fewer buttons.

And it’s the future!

No, it isn't enough. Your six figures covered the vehicle as delivered, not the continuing and recurring costs of hosting AI services. The exact same logic applies to why you have to pay a Connect+ fee to cover data costs and Autonomy+ fees to cover the autonomy development costs.

I can help answer questions...
My only question is - did Rivian correct the damn Trip Meter m/kWh and kWh used micro font that showed up in 2026.03? It needs to revert to at least the pre 2026.03 size that was much more legible. There’s NO excuse for the current tiny font. TIA.

Last update has been terrible. Road cam failed to start recording and missed an incident. Bluetooth has been extremely flaky and I had to restart multiple times. Hope they fixed the issues.

Not sure if anyone mentioned the profile pin feature listed below in the release notes. I wonder why Rivian didn’t just take this further and provide a PIN to drive feature as an alternate to multi-factor drive so one pin would be entered to unlock the profile and vehicle.

———

Secure Your Profile
The Profile authentication feature helps secure your profile with a four- to six-digit PIN (Personal Identification Number), so only you or your key–digital or phone–can unlock your driver profile and personalized settings on any Rivian vehicle you drive. To set this up, go to Profile > Account > Security > Profile PIN in the Rivian mobile app version 3.12 or later.
NOTE
If the Profile authentication feature is turned on, the following apply:
  • The vehicle authenticates you and your profile only if it detects a digital or phone key. If it doesn't detect a key, the center display prompts you to enter a PIN.
  • The Profile PIN applies to all Rivian vehicles you own or drive.
  • When the profile is locked, you have limited access to vehicle features until you authenticate.

This is hilarious, and likely the most honest answer here. Thank you for that!
While I can drive very well and safe, I have hands that were burned in a fire and my fingers don't finger like they used to; so voice control in my Model X was very welcome over trying to turn a tiny knob for temp or fan speed from my prior car. The all digital control on my 2026 R1T means I don't adjust temp etc once I start driving.

There are good uses for voice command. I'd imagine many a folks with arthritis or other hand issue would find it a welcome advanced in technology if it worked well.

I asked at autonomy day. It depends on what hardware you have. With the 3rd gen compute much of it will run locally. On 1st gen it’s probably all remote only ;-( Not sure about Gen 2 and the pre-LiDAR R2s.
The R2 (pre RAP1 and LiDAR) has updated infotainment computer (Gen 3 if you wish) compared to R1 gen 2 and that’s not changing next year as only autonomy compute changes.

Right? I paid all the money for this phone, too. Why do I still have to pay Verizon half a car payment every month?
