The assistant is looking like we are losing some important (at least for me) functionality, gaining some less useful functionality. Right now the Alexa can operate my garage doors and outdoor lights and other home control. It is mostly an idiot when it comes to navigating because it cannot find things. It is not great at controlling vehicle functions. It can make calls and has calendar integration but it cannot send texts or emails. Based on the above the new assistant improves some things, breaks other things, significant degrades the calendar functions. Mixed bag.

Thats an easy one. The answer will be "No, not Taylor Swift again, would you like to hear better music?"
The default response should be to play Rick Astley in an infinite loop, until you pull over and hard reset.

Look at the demo I reposted from Autonomy Day. It clearly knows where things are and can set it as your Nav destination.

I think we will wait until we get actual field testing rather than a canned and curated demo to judge whether or not it knows where things are. Alexa does fabulously on demos as well. The problem is that Alexa does not know many map points so if you give it a destination it often has a hard time sending the correct coordinates to Google maps. Let's see if the location database that Rivian has is better or not I certainly hope so.

IMO the benefits outweight the losses. I have a fair amount of home automation. You can still use the Alexa voice app on your phone if that's important. I hope that home automation integration is on Rivian's future features list. Also, keep in mind that Alexa's future is still unclear. Yes they say they are moving to Alexa+, but in the process older Alexa devices/tech are going to scrap pile. This reinforces why Rivian wants to control the stack and not be at the whims of Amazon, Apple, Google/Android, etc. Look at what has happened to Sonos. I think it's the right move.

I didn't say the demo performed fabulously. Watch it and you will see it faltered a little here and there. Which is expected of a unfinished work-in-progress. I point to the demo to point out how it could work and the things it could do. In other words, instead of blind speculation, and jumping to conclusions, look for and keep in mind hard evidence.

The gaps in evidence and unknowns are just that... unknowns that will become knowns once software is released and in hand.

Unless you're trying to make $ betting on Kalshi... /s

So pretty much nothing if you’re Gen 1 and not subscribed to C+ … RivAss is yet another data collection service, this should be free to use as Rivian benefits

I was thinking the same thing. Gen1, non C+, we don’t get RivAss, right? We’re stuck with Alexa? We should still be able to use RivAss with low level basic commands.

Yes, I believe Gen 1 will need C+.

Wasn't planning on having conversations with my truck so I guess I'm ok with it being behind a subscription.
