Actually, this pricing is not in-line with Tesla at all. Launch edition Model Y (Juniper) came with all options for free. Currently, the Model Y Performance at $57.5k comes with free paint.

The paint and interior pricing is identical to 3/Y. No one is saying an R2 is cheaper than a Model Y overall. The Model Y Performance paint being free is a current promo they are offering to sell vehicles also.Actually, this pricing is not in-line with Tesla at all. This seems like it’s on the wrong thread, but yeah it sucks, especially considering Rivian doesn’t have dealerships. This is an archaic law that needs to be struck from the books.I just bought a R1T and picked it up at the Factory in Normal. WITH a destination Charge !!! It’s a big piece of property. Available the NEXT day I placed the order. Must have been parked WAY WAY in the back of the property for a $1800 delivery fee. Rubs me wrong.
If Rivian does not charge extra for lidar and upgraded chip, then it's the extras that the launch edition includes vs. lidar and upgraded chip. So the launch edition might be less a "better deal" and more a trade off based on the customers priorities.LE isn't just a higher trim. It's a Performance with a bunch of included add one and an exclusive color. It's cheaper than if you got a Performance and added the extras.
My guess is we’ll get to be able to have LE into Q1’27, that might be delivered through, with orders tapering by sometime IN Q1’26.. hopefully.I think they’ll be selling LEs at least until the end of the year when those other color options become available. Maybe even into early 2027. If the demand is there they’ll make them. Profits will soar.
I hope they don't end the LE in Q1'26.My guess is we’ll get to be able to have LE into Q1’26, that might be delivered through, with orders tapering by sometime IN Q1’26.. hopefully.
You're not wrong but a lot of people want something other than a Model Y. A nice boxy SUV. Rivian hasn't achieved Tesla level cost parity yet, will be 5 more years or so.With most getting a premium or better trim because they want AWD on their rugged "adventure vehicle" and then just adding a spare tire, paying 1.5k destination fee, and state tax, they almost all will find themselves north of 59k or a lease on that basis. Does 59k+ work as a mass market vehicle? An AWD Tesla Model Y which does sell as a mass market vehicle sells south of 46k after destination fee and taxes.
Because they aren't making the premium version now. Rivian can produce every R2 Launch without knowing what wheel combination any particular customer wants. They likely don't have the 20" all seasons available to them for production.I don't understand why Rivian does not allow the 20" wheels with 20" all seasons. They already have it in the Premium version...
Model Y is available for sale today as is, why would people even be here talking about an R2 that isn't available yet?Actually, this pricing is not in-line with Tesla at all. The interior is not the same quality as the R1. I’d imagine the paint is the same, but it’s covering a smaller vehicle with a larger glass roof and dark-gray front and rear bumpers for easier repairs. IMO the paint options should be cheaper as well.Interesting that paint is virtually as expensive as R1, but white interior far less so??? I was assuming I'd have to forego the latter, but now I guess maybe not.
