If I'm just parked for a short time I typically leave it up, but if I'm going to be parked in the direct sun for any significant amount of time, for example any time I'd want to use my windshield sun shade, I take it down.Curious, I left the Comma attached while parked and have seen it get very hot. I’m using the Comma supplied mount.
Removing it is kind of a pain. I inevitably smudge one of the camera. Then the cables are just hanging there.
I tried using my HeatShield but the Comma is in the way if I leave it mounted.
I tried notching a cutout in the HeatShield but it isn’t great.
1. Do you typically remove your Comma when parked for other than very short times?
2. If so, do you leave the cables hanging? Assuming that’s what it looked like at you SC visits.
3. Did you get a bag or something to store it in when dismounted?
4. I’ve seen people very concerned about recalibrating Rivian MobileEye, etc, after a windshield replacement. Do you ever recalibrate and mounting and dismounting Comma?
To make it easier I use a magnetic mount - specifically the Chun mount, though there are others available like the beartech.
I also have a case to keep it in, but usually only use it if I'm transporting it, otherwise I just leave it down in the footwell storage area.
I never need to recalibrate from simply taking it down off the windshield. Usually only need to recalibrate after installing a new driving model, and even then only sometimes.
For a carrying case, I recommend the beartech case. Very secure and it's a nice size.
