Got this today after leaving the truck for 2-3 minutes to drop a package off.

“Adaptive Cruise Control unavailable until serviced”

Only thread I found with this specific warning was in 2023.

Neither a software restart or a vehicle restart have resolved it.

Waiting to see if vehicle sleep will resolve it.

Please post if you’ve experienced this error.

I’ve seen theories about, what I’ll call Rivian “naps” causing issues with different systems. Nap = operation the vehicle after leaving it for a short period of time, maybe 10 minutes or less. This would fit into that theory.

I've had this a few times, related to installing a Comma self-driving unit, and doing the John Travolta reset fixed it.

Press and hold the left steering wheel button and the hazard button.

The term "John Travolta reset" in relation to Rivian does not refer to any official reset procedure or feature endorsed by Rivian or by John Travolta himself. Instead, it is a tongue-in-cheek nickname adopted by some in the Rivian and OpenPilot enthusiast community, especially in online forums. This "John Travolta reboot" refers to one of several methods attempted to reset or troubleshoot certain issues (often related to after-market modifications such as Comma.ai devices), but it is discussed as not being effective compared to a full battery-off reset and removal of all add-ons.

@SwampNut, neither a software restart or a vehicle restart (as described in the manual) resolved it. However looks like vehicle sleep may have resolved it.

@gerrylum lol, I posted to that thread, having seen that error long before installing Comma 3x.

I disconnected the Comma and let the truck sleep. Later, the error was gone but I haven’t reconnected the Comma to see if it comes back. At least I didn’t need RIDE to reset the ECUs.

I’m wondering if the Comma 3x, or if certain Rivian ECUs or power relays are is slow to wake up. I’ve encountered similar issues with EV Play not working as expected after short R1T naps.

Both Comma and EV Play are inserting themselves between native systems, so if they’re slow to wake, the native systems may malfunction…

I've had this a number of times with the Comma, and it make take multiple reboots and sleep cycles to fix.

Infotainment reboot...didn't fix. Infotainment reboot PLUS get out of the car, let it "turn off" for about three minutes and come back...fixed. Once. But not another time.

Disco reboot, not fixed, until I followed up with ALSO an Infotainment reboot.

Another time, each individual reboot has fixed it.

Just random.

Many of us have had the same thought. We have one person testing a physical switch to turn on the Comma after the Rivian has had a chance to wake. Another person has said setting the Comma to boot into Offroad mode can also solve this issue.

I have this same problem. Have done both a soft and hard reset (multiple times) and washed the vehicle. Have a service appt in 2 weeks for correction.

Adding to this thread as I’m having the same problem following this latest software update. I’ve tried multiple infotainment and full reboots but the problem persists.

Occasionally it will let me turn on adaptive cruise but will fail within a minute of using it saying “System fault detected”. Weirdly when that happens it basically goes into MADS mode and the Comma still controls steering but I lose the longitudinal control.

Have you tried disconnecting the Comma to see if it’s related or not?

As another datapoint, I’ve done a few hours of highway and city driving using a C4 with longitudinal since the update and zero issues. I let it drive to its full extent and only drive manually when required.

I’ve disconnected and reconnected the USB cables at the C3 but haven’t tried driving without it being connected. I was worried it would light the dash up like a Christmas tree if I tried doing that.

My next plan was to crawl under the dash this weekend and plug the stock harness back in to rule out anything with the Rivian hardware but I’m not exactly excited to do that.

The only time this happens to me any more is if I disconnect things while the car is in drive, or disconnect the long harness before the main/power. A lot of us remove the Comma often for various reasons, and these steps are 100% reliable for me:

Car in park (doesn't need to be in sleep).
Remove power.
Remove longitudinal connection.

I just did it a few seconds ago to switch over to Adventure Pilot.

Out of curiosity, how are you powering your Comma? OBDII power, fusetap, or are you using the AXM power through the harness?

I keep forgetting how important this is. To add to this, all of my mystery car freakouts stopped when I switched to fuse power.

Good to know, thanks!

I’m using the fuse tap for power.
