I have a 2023 R1S Quad. I have been in “snow mode” the past 2.5 years and it works great for around the town driving. Now I don’t switch to normal regen on long trips as there are so many more chargears. Snow is much smoother and comfortable and it stops fine. Just fyi….JB

Took a Demo drive in King of Prussia PA space this afternoon. They had one R2 inside the space and one outside for drives. Both Catalina Cove. I was the only customer in the store so had all the time in the world to explore it, sit inside and get used to the controls. I don't currently own an R1 and have never owned an electric vehicle. I've been on the verge of pulling the trigger on an R1S for some time but wanted to wait to see the R2 in person before making a decision. I test drove the R1S a couple times and the R2 felt very similar to the R1S. I love driving both. The R2 is very roomy on the inside, plenty of space. From the outside the R2 looks smaller than I was expecting and the rear trunk was much smaller than I thought it would be. Overall R2 was fun to drive.
I always find this opinion that it looks smaller than some people expected very interesting.

I'm curious what your expectation was regarding size? It looks more visually imposing and taller than a Model Y, Ioniq 5, Mach-E, etc and its been clear all along that those are the vehicles this car is aimed at. Its very similar in size to the current Jeep Cherokee and BMW X3 which are on the larger end of their classes.

If anything, I think the R2 looks more imposing on the road than its dimensions suggest, so people thinking it looks small is perplexing to me.

Finished a drive today and loved it! The test drive is well-run - they give you a route and set you loose. Great acceleration and handling, tech was intuitive and snappy. I’ve seen people complain about the haptic wheels, but that was my favorite part. Navigating between menus was quick and easy, loved having climate controls at my fingertips. No more clicking through menus! Can’t wait to get mine!
I think there's probably just a brief learning curve and you took the time to play with them and figure it out. I was focused on other things so was fumbling with the scroll wheels withing really trying to master them. I LOVED the way they felt in hand and the scrolling feel was excellent...I just found them awkward to click in and out without accidentally scrolling. There's probably a right way to hold them and I didnt find it lol.

I have the Mark Levinson "premium sound" in my GX460, and like all Toyota products it's a turd of a sound system even with Levinson's name slapped on it. I'm going on a demo drive in an hour, so I'll get to hear it for myself soon.
Ooh, I'm interested in your thoughts then. I have the same sound system (2018) & never been impressed. It is the nicest car I've had thus far, but Lexus seems to love decade old technology.

I watched a review saying the R2 sounds bad at high volumes... I didn't test that. Literally only listened for about 5 minutes to the radio.

Aww. I used to live down the steet from the Laguna Space. I would always pop in for the various events and movies they would have. I miss it so much :(

I moved to Dallas for work/logitical reasons because I was travelling every other week and the west coast was very inconvenient. Texas sucks though, I will be leaving. I need mountains and ocean and nice weather again.

Since you have a G2 Quad vs my experience with the G1 Quad...I assume your G2 still feels much quicker than the R2 Performance?

Gen 2 is ridiculously quick. What I was impressed with in the R2 is the suspension and handling. It is a home run as far as I am concerned.

BTW Laguna Beach was beautiful yesterday. Hope you get back th CA!

I do my around town driving in Sport mode. It makes a huge difference regarding responsiveness. Efficiency isn't great, but who cares when driving around town?

That said, I bet R2 Sport mode will feel more sporty than R1 Sport mode. Inquiring minds want to know!
I do most of my driving in sport mode haha. I actually feel like my R1 feels firmer and the steering heavier in sport. But handling and throttle response were much sportier in the R2. The R2 in sport almost feels as comforable as the R1 in soft, but more athletic than the R1 in Sport. I havent driven a Tri though so can't compare directly.

Speaking of...the R2 Tri is gonna be an absolute monster is the Dual Performance is this good.

I’m a first day reservation holder but don’t own a Rivian. I do own 3 Teslas and the first was a Model 3 purchased in May 2018. I received the email for a demo drive yesterday morning and immediately signed up for a drive.

First the really big news for anyone living in S Placer County, there’s a new “Tier 1” service center on Granite Dr in Rocklin between the Tesla and Porsche dealers! It literally opened last Thursday in prep for R2. The manager stated it was Rivian’s largest center to date. The two things that will keep me from buying a R2 immediately are no close by service center, now resolved, and the lack of self driving.

I’ve ridden in two R1S’s before and have test driven one so I have some familiarity with Rivian. The manager went over the car for me. We set regen at the highest level, selected the performance mode, adjusted the controls and he let me drive it for 30 minutes by myself. I adjusted both front seats for me, jumped in the back seats and my knees had 2”+ of clearance before hitting the back of the front seat.

The R2 drove really nice, way better than my Model Y Performance rally car edition. Lots of room inside, I have a tall family, and the car was very fast. Unfortunately the speed limiter was set to 81 mph so no test of high speed wind noise. My test drive had the 20” wheels with the Trail Terrain tires and they were smooth and quiet.

I didn’t test the sound system but did test the autopilot and it’s basically adaptive cruise control with lane keep. Unless I missed something it’s pretty basic and not much different from other cars I’ve owned.

Other details have been well covered so I won’t go into them.

Overall I was very impressed with R2 and it exceeded my expectations. The Lidar equipped cars can’t come soon enough.

The only question I have is it time to buy Rivian stock?

Someone on Twitter told me that we're all being paid lol.

I simply said I did a first drive of the R2 and it was great.

First up the only real complaint popped up, no telescoping steering wheel. Really in a $60,000 car in 2026? Big miss IMO. I’m 6’2” and like my seat back. In my normal driving position the wheel was too far away. Self driving will fix that for long trips. In the plus side I adjusted both front seats for me, jumped in the back seats and my knees had 2”+ of clearance before hitting the back of the front seat.

The wheel telescopes. You just didn't do it right.

I've seen in video's that the steering column does telescope. That's strange... wonder if that was a software issue.

That’s strange we couldn’t adjust it. . I had the center manager helping me setup the car. I hope it does have a telescoping column as that was my only concern. I was very impressed with R2.

I didn’t pull on the wheel as most are motor driven and the manager said it didn’t telescope. Hmmm

I’m an R1 S owner, test drove the R2 yesterday. I felt the ride quality was superior to my R1. No clunky sounds just simply smoother and handled rough roads better. I’m a big fan of the simplicity of suspension by getting rid of the air.
Overall, very impressed and I look forward to getting mine.
Was your test drive on 20”s or 21”s?
