Battery maintenance when traveling for extended periods

I’ll be traveling for the next two to three months. I’m parking my Rivian R1S at home. I have a Rivian wall-mounted charger at home. What is the recommended procedure for battery maintenance after I return from my trip? What battery charge level should I leave the R1S before I travel?

Just leave it plugged in the whole time you're gone -- don't overthink it.

@rch_sc: If it's an NMC battery (everything larger than Standard), consider leaving it plugged in, with maximum SoC set between 50% (for optimal battery health) and 70% (safety margin against discharging, and more useful right away after you return).

When you return, it should be drivable right away.

Other forum participants may know how to treat an LFP battery (Standard battery size, i.e., the smallest) during extended non-use.

@Dave Cundiff. Thank you. It’s useful to have advice on state of charge (SoC) limits for batteries. I believe I have the NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) battery type in my R1S vehicle.

Exactly this.

For daily (around town) I charge to 60-70%. NMC is happiest between 40-60%. Short term storage 50-70% is perfect. Long term storage 50-60% is prime. Road trips, I let it rip.

I agree with leaving it plugged in with a charge setting of 50%. One additional step I took was to plug a battery minder into the ODBII port to insure the 12v battery stayed charged as well. Maybe a bit overkill, but with al of the 12v battery failures, I didn't want to take a chance.
