What to do when key card takes forever to unlock R1T?

2026 Dual Standard R1T
My wife is reporting 10-15 seconds of multiple taps before car responds.
This is becoming a safety issue.
I've got the car set to stay locked at home so my phone proximity does not unlock/wake it up.
Is this the problem?
Some soft reset/button pushing I need to do?

Is she just tapping, meaning touching the key card near the handle, then quickly lifting it? I’ve always laid it as flat as possible on the handle until it locks/unlocks. Takes ~ 2 seconds.

Not to make this sound like a female thing, but my wife always does the same thing with hotel rooms keys: sets it on the reader & pulls it away too quickly.

Don't tap, hold the card in place until it's recognized.

She is doing it properly.
Just did it in the driveway with both keys and it promptly unlocked.
Is it just buggy tech? Why would truck go into "deep sleep" for a 1/2 hr grocery run?
Costco and then later the grocery store (carrying items, in a public place, what if she needed to get in the car quick?) the unlock was the delay I described.

I set the car to stay locked at home and not unlock when the phone approaches. This has created a prolonged "waking" time (using phone) before it unlocks that I did not notice before I changed that setting.

I've just alway found my key card takes a bit of patience...not sure why, but have accepted it.

Not buggy in my gen1. But does take longer if vehicle has been in extended sleep. Other situations where vehicle is more aware, works right away. As already mentioned, it not a tap operation. Hold in place until you get a reaction.

I think the wrist band and the card work the same. There is a very small space on the handle that will read the NFC chip. There is no "tapping". Once you learn the placement (1.5 inches from the end of the handle) it takes maybe 2 seconds. Just hold it there.

It's a convenient way to be dramatic playing off the idea that there are predators in every parking lot waiting to jump a person if it takes them longer than a second to get in the car and drive off.

Unfortunately, mine does wake up at home even though I have it set to not unlock. I'm often near it while not intending to drive, and it wakes up over and over again.

Lat card flat on handle is what I have seen with my Gen1. I find that a specific spot (on the card) and side facing the handle helps as well.

Keycard is not designed for quick and easy entry imo - just quick and easy to carry and 1 less item to carry logic.

That being said, your settings should not be a problem at Costco and phone should kick in. Be sure to check precise location settings on app and app is open (I think); don’t swipe up.

Or apple watch? Buy Key fob?

I just realized that I've never used either of the cards. I've given them to service people to use, so they must work, but I've never tried them myself. I can't imagine why anyone would. I just keep one in the console for service/valet.

So free type.

1. I grew up in Detroit. I want to get in the car and go. A client of mine was shot at the mall in our Cali burb here as a gang initiation. I don't need bad luck assisted by bad tech.
2. PAAK with her own account. More money? How do I do this. I'll ask ChatGPT
3. I'd buy a key fob but thought I read that slow access is possible with that device too?
4. My vehcile stays locked at home as that setting promises. But it can be hard to wake the car up at times.
5. I'll see what the Apple Watch is all about. She'd like that option if it works.
