Update (posted by sparked below):

Rivian fast tracked a resolution. The benefits of having limited configurations at launch.

A customer service lead reached out and they have identified a new VIN in Normal and will be trucking the car out instead of sending by rail. Should hopefully be at SC within a week and delivery scheduled from there.

I wouldn't know whether to laugh or cry if I were in this position -- probably both :CWL:

I could be wrong here, but I think that I read that the chargeport door, and front/rear fascias (basically the plastic bodywork) are prepainted at a separate site and shipped in. Someone, please correct me if I'm wrong. But that still wouldn't explain why the fascia would be painted in a color that isn't even offered on the R2.

Wow! I got totally tricked by your post title. I was expecting to learn about an R2 pickup truck.

As far as what it's actually about -- good. I wouldn't want the vehicle with the paint so badly matched either. There's often some color variation between the plastic and metal bits but this example looks especially bad.

Yeah, that was getting to my point about the parts being painted at different locations. I've often seen slight color variations between the metal bodywork and the front/rear bumpers across various vehicle types and brands.

Tesla had the same issue with the plastic bumper covers not matching the metal body colors on early Model Y's, specifically in white. It turns out the bumper covers were not painted at the plant in Freemont where the vehicles were painted.

So bottom line, there was a manufacturing mistake on this vehicle coming off a brand new assembly line, but it was noticed before delivery to the customer and is now being corrected, while keeping the customer informed about what is happening?

Seems a bit dramatic to post about a "Big Screw Up". These little errors happen every day, no matter how hard you try to prevent them. The important part is how Rivian handles these inevitable problems. Part of that will be taking corrective action at the manufacturing level - this is how production improves over time.

If they want to accidentally paint my entire R2 in Limestone, I will not complain.
Hilarious! My wife with a Gen 1 Quad R1S agrees with you. It’s one of several reasons she’s still on the fence for trading it in for an R2 as originally planned.

I think someone interpreted the term "half-moon gray" as half a car being moon gray (half "moon gray").

To expand on the Jeep comment - this happened to me back in 2018 when we purchased a JLU Sahara while it was in transit. It showed up and had two different 'freedom' panels (one painted body color as it was supposed to be, the other was textured flat black)

The Jeep dealer at first couldn't understand why I was bothered by this seemingly minor inconvenience...

They eventually acquiesced and agreed to paint the black one, which wouldn't work for me as they are not meant to be painted (the body color ones were finished smooth to allow paint, the flat black ones were textured.

Finally after several months and phone calls to Jeep Cares, Jeep sent a new panel and had it painted to match.

I can see Rivian sending this out for paint rather than replacing the front fascia.
I personally like the two-tone look, like a misprint on a beer can, makes it special!
