Switched from R1T (Gen 1 Quad) to a Ford Bronco

My wife has a 2024 4-Door Bronco with the 2.7L. We love that we don't care to get it dirty, inside or out, then clean it back up. We drive it on trails and the beach. We switched out the anemic looking stock OBX wheels and tires for some 17' wheels with 285/70 A/T's. If you keep the wheels and tires light it still get's decent gas mileage for a brick with a powerful engine.

We’re about to go to two Rivian’s and will never buy an ICE again….unless maybe its a weekend car some day way down the line.

No interest in an ICE daily driver at all.

Why?

Seems irresponsible to have the financial means to do better than pumping carbon into the atmosphere unnecessarily. You didn't have to announce the departure, but you did.

We had a Bronco for few years and then moved into an R1T. Loved the Bronco and wish we had room for both. But daily driving the Bronco became old especially with any interstate driving.

Would love to pick up another one some day as a fun second car.

There are numerous studies out there showing BEV's have a much lower carbon footprint over the life of the vehicle. Yes, up front the batteries have a high carbon footprint but it doesn't take long to recoup that by not burning gasoline.

Yeah, I also hate this argument because we don't have to let perfect be the enemy of "better."

Crazy. I’ve had 6 EVs since 2012. None drove better than my ICE sports cars from a driving enthusiast viewpoint, that includes a 911 and my current Lotus. To each their own I suppose.

I actually find my i4 much more enjoyable on twisty roads than even a manual transmission. One pedal driving means I can focus more on pushing it to the limit and not have to lift my foot off the gas or shift.

I don't think many people in the US really care about emmisions or saving the environment. They like the idea of being green and if you ask them whether it's a good idea to 'save the planet' they'll always say yes... provided it doesn't inconvenience them. So they'll happily run a big gas guzzler because filling up at the pump is easy (vs planning a long journey with charging stops). Sitting in a car pool outside a school with the V8 running for 15mins so you can run the AC and radio on, yeah no big deal. Using 25 plastic bags at the supermarket that then get landfilled vs taking your own re-usuable bags... I could go on.

USA doesn't give a sh!t about the planet until it starts to bite them. It's the old 'freedom/choice/don't tell me what to do and how to live my life' argument.

They don't, but they have a full recycling system basically ready to go. Wait till you see the lifecycle of a recycled EV from cradle to grave.

Sure. I keep my EV cars for 100k miles. But I know many people who lease cars for 3 years, put 30k miles on it, and then get a new one. Battery after battery after battery.

Once the true recycling is set up, we will be in better shape. There are plans to reuse every bit of metal in there. And - even better - to use materials that have a lower environmental impact.

Obviously a very different vehicle and very different driving experience. But I'm loving the Bronco! I forgot how nice it is to have intuitive knobs and switches controlling things inside the car. 30 years of driving-related muscle memory means it just feels like home to have a "normal" windshield wiper control stock or volume knob. I did enjoy driving an EV and I'll buy another one at some point. I miss the ease of plugging in at night. Don't miss the acceleration. That became just a parlor trick after a few months and I never really used all that HP and torque. I realize this will not be a popular post on here, but thought I'd share in case anyone else is thinking of going back in time to a truck that runs on dino juice.
