I just logged in and it looks like the web page has changed. There had been a link to a form that asked for info, including your VIN. I filled it out months ago, and tried again a week or so so back. That got me the same error message that others reported.

I sent an email request to Rivian after that, and got the canned message below. It was a Thursday, and no one got back to me on Friday. If I don't hear from them by Weds, I'll try the phone number. You could also try contacting them that way.

Agree that it's almost as if Rivian is deliberately making this difficult.

I call BS that you have to pay the premium to get your used vehicle from Rivian’s used fleet, especially since the “inspection” doesn’t meet muster. Seems there are posts with bought used from rivian and immediately had xyz problem and/or not even cleaned out? Should be able to take your used Rivian to a service center, have them verify it isn’t damaged and get Rivian Care. Otherwise change the name to Rivian Sort of Cares.

I'm a second owner, still in-warranty. If rivian think this condition for extended warranty coverage will prompt me to go trade in with them, I think they may be underestimating how long people can hold a grudge against a car brand. I'd understand the shenanigans with lack of non-rivian service centers and witholding of extra warranty if they were positioning themselves as luxury/niche, but the value proposition was an adventure vehicle/underdogs transforming the 4x4 space towards EV.

Here's hoping the longer-term vision and values will prevail over whatever bullshit the marketing and after-sales service folks decide to pull with these tactics.

Heard back from Rivian today. I made a table of the coverage options and it is posted below.

Caveats: Applies only to a 26 month old vehicle with 19,000 miles. Coverage starts immediately and includes the existing time, so if you have a 26 month old vehicle and select say 60 month coverage, you get only 24 months of coverage beyond the factory three-year bumper-to-bumper. Put another way, if you want five years of coverage beyond that of the standard factory warranty, you need to choose the 96 month plan. The payment plans can be billed in equal monthly payments over two years with no interest which eases the financial blow only slightly.

Haven't read all the fine print but think that the "one-time" replacement may apply only to some covered W&T items - this is what was listed as covered:
● Interior and exterior light bulbs (impact damage not covered)
● Fuses
● One replacement set of front and/or rear brake pads including brake
rotor replacement if brake rotor thickness is less than the
manufacturer’s minimum specs
● One replacement of each hose
● One replacement set of front and/or rear windshield wiper blades
● One wheel alignment

If I pay $6000 to get Rivian care and my dampers start clunking..... will I get them fixed or will the tech claim it's within specs? I always find that getting something diagnosed is much easier when the cost is coming out of pocket.

I am not sure you are correct about the term months. You should be getting 60 months of warranty from when you execute the agreement. In your case, if you purchased 60 months now at 26 months into your 36 month factory warranty (is that correct? I had a 60 month factory warranty on my Gen 1 Quad and I thought they reduced subsequent models to 48 months?) you should have the additional 60 months plus the 26 months that already expired which should take you out to 50 additional months of warranty past the factory warranty. You are paying for double coverage from now to 36 months assuming you are below your mileage threshold. You can wait until you are closer to the end of your factory warranty for maximum benefit of the extended warranty, but the price will go up the more time and miles you accumulate.

As far as the one item replacement, you are looking at two different things. The RivianCare policy does have limit language where once a covered component is replaced under the warranty that component has no further coverage. The Xcare policy has the same limit but they are supposedly working to remove it. The RivianCare policy also has one time wear and tear coverage on selected parts (the parts you listed) and that is additional to the standard warranty coverage. Xcare does not have this one-time wear and tear parts coverage.

I hope that helps clear things up. I am admittedly not an expert on this, but I have been doing lots of homework lately as I am currently shopping for an extended warranty. And I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night...

I have a '22 R1T with 53K miles. Truck has been great and thinking of keeping it another 3 years or so. Got a quote for Rivian care and for 3 years looks like just under 3K. Seems like a good investment rather than gamble on having no issues. Welcome others thoughts. I have typically stayed away from extended warranties but this isn't an ICE car and kinda unknown territory I think.

This is the wording from the email that lead me to think that coverage is shorter: "Rivian Care contracts go into effect right away and when pricing the contract, any overlap with your factory warranty is taken into account."

I admit that I'm interpreting that broadly. It surely must mean that original factory warranty trumps the extended warranty for repairs during the three-year period (and the 7/8 for the traction battery). I'm also reading it to mean your quoted price is defrayed by any overlap with the factory warranty, and inferring that means the coverage period is reduced. I hope you're right that my interpretation is not correct and readily admit that I haven't combed through the 12 pages of propaganda that was sent to figure things out.

As to the one-time only provision, that could be a very meaningful limitation, particularly if the replacement components items do not carry a guarantee of their own. And since the extended warranty allows the use of other than new parts by the SC (". . . replacement parts can be new, used, non-OEM or remanufactured."), limiting things to one-time replacement is an even better provision - for Assurance.

My snarky comments aside, it seems that you are leaning toward going with XCare, perhaps waiting a bit to see if they jettison the one-time language?

Why would they? The program is run by Assurant; the money doesn't come from Rivian's coffers.

Thanks for sharing, that’s a more encouraging response than I got 2 weeks ago.

I would encourage more secondary owners to reach out to [email protected] to inquire about Rivian Care. The more of us that reach out, then I think the sooner they’ll make it available to us.

Watch what is happening with Xcare right now...once they update their agreement it will be a better deal than RivianCare (IMO) anyway.
