They renamed Autopilot to "Traffic Aware Cruise Control With Autosteer." Tesla no longer offers "Autosteer" and its just TACC so in essence, no more Autopilot. They have to sell FSD right
right. That is what I thought. No auto steer is a deal breaker for me.

So the bottom line on a Tesla is I would need to spend $100 per month even if all
I want is lane centering cruise control. FSD is supposedly leagues better than Rivian’s A+, but shouldn’t it be if Tesla is asking owners to pay an extra $6,000 over 60 months of ownership compared to an R2 LE.

Its better for now once Rivian launches P2P it will be close to the same. Then with lidar data even better over time. All for $50 a month or $2,500 now...

Had my second test drive of the R2 today in Catalina Cove with 21". I took my kids to get their feedback. They loved the R2 and can't wait to trade in our old car.
  1. The kids helped with the color. I was between Esker Silver and Half Moon Gray. 1 liked the Silver, 1 liked HMG, and 1 undecided. Great. So I told my daughter the HMG was an extra $1500 she was 😲, "you have to pay for color?" She changed her vote to Esker Silver.
  2. We didn't get the test drive with the 20" Black Sand All-Terrain, but they look better in person and all the kids preferred 20" over the 21". We thought the 20" gray finish would look better with Esker Silver.
  3. The kids loved the audio system and the controls for the music. The base was heavy from the front. I wish we had the option for a sub in the back. I wonder if there could be a custom aftermarket sub to add. The played K-pop, J-pop, Bad Bunny, NWA, The Police.
I don't have my invite yet, Aug-Sept window, but at least I know what we are going with when it comes in.

There is a small sub in the back right of the cargo area. I concur that there is too much bass in the front and even if you adjust the EQ way down it is still there. If they’d dial it back in the front a tad it is a pretty solid system.

Silver also won’t show swirls and light scratches. Every other color is basically a variation of black in terms of keeping it in good condition.

I agree, the 20-inch wheels look better. The 21-inch wheels look a bit disproportionately large for this vehicle.

I didn't know there was a sub already in the back. It sounded like everything was coming from the front, nothing from the back. I was driving while my daughter was the one going through the audio controls. Definitely seems like the audio was bias from the front. It could just needs to be adjusted, but not a real issue for me.

Did you look at the audio settings? Somebody might have moved the fader forward.

Demo drive today in good ol Boise Idaho. I attached a picture of the screen for the vehicle description. This is the first drive for me of the R2. I will schedule a 2nd demo drive for my wife in a few weeks, we will both compare each of our drives then. We are not EV owners, but my son has had a Gen 1 R1 and a gen 2 R1, I have driven both.

Car is solid and seats where comfortable for me, 5'9". It was 92 and the car was parked outside when it was my turn to drive it. Air worked perfectly, it was set to 73 and the cooling seat was on medium, the 30 min drive was always cool. Ride was very good, just can't say anything bad about how it drove or handled. I looked at another demo that was there while I was waiting and the fit and finish was spot on.

During the drive I heard no rattles or squeaks, the radio was off.

I later turned the radio on and it sounded really good, it had good base and good highs. I didn't play with the settings at all for the radio.

I think it’s funny that this car seems to have average 8 miles an hour throughout it’s short life.

I’ve fiddled with the fader and it’s dead center. Sound is definitely geared towards the dash speakers. Still sounds good just biased to front.

I scheduled my second demo drive for the Knightdale service center this past Friday. This time my wife was going to come along to see the R2 for the first time. Unfortunately, They called me about four hours prior to the drive to cancel. They said there was a problem with the vehicle. They didn’t know when they could reschedule me. The good thing is, they looked at my area code and saved me a three hour one-way trip. The bad news is that there is something wrong with the vehicle in that certainly doesn’t give a good impression .

Currently, there is a pop-up demo drive in Charlotte but has no availability. There’s also a pop-up at the Duncan SC in South Carolina with no availability. Furthermore, when I check the Knightdale service center they now have no availability either. My next choice is Ladson , South Carolina, which is 198 miles away.

Sometimes Rivian really does not make this process easy.

It is a new vehicle from new company, you should not expect reliability, even Toyota can't make their EVs right for years(google "Toyota ev 12v battery issues ")
