Standard Cruise Control - help me convince Rivian it should be an option!

I'm looking for other people to contact Rivian to make an option for standard cruise control vs the !!%$@# Adaptive Cruise Control like other manufacturers.
Not having any kind of cruise control when the sensors get block by snow is absolutely ridiculous (yes, I know, cruise control shouldn't be used on snowy roads, but it is very common to drive through a snow shower that covers sensors then end up on dry pavement for the rest of the drive. And yes, I can (and did) pull over, get out, get filthy cleaning the sensors off then get back on the highway - but I really shouldn't have to do that).
And the "auto slowing" in turns drives me nuts on a regular basis since we do a lot of windy highway driving.

Sounds like an edge case to me, @Hiflyer, in which I would take over manual control for a while. To address your other issue, I find auto-slowing to be annoying -- but I don't perceive it as unsafe.

I prefer what we have now -- adaptive cruise on each of our vehicles, without any option for standard cruise. I would not want to think I was in adaptive-cruise mode, only to find myself behind a rapidly decelerating "lead car" only when my vehicle has failed to respond.

So I think an option for standard cruise would be more dangerous, without significant compensating advantages. If others agree with you, though, that's what markets are for....

That's what I told myself for the last three years, then drove three other cars that had regular cruise control as an option...that were otherwise crappy vehicles LOL

Totally agree we need standard cruise as the sun also screws with the sensors. What we really need, though, is to have the Rivian stop making noises whenever I engage or disengage cruise. Especially at night when others are trying to sleep in the car and over and over again with the beeping.

Plug something into the 7 pin trailer connector and you'll have regular cruise control.

I think it's good to have both. First road trip in our '21 MY the phantom braking was so bad and consistent that I had to drive across the dust bowl of Kansas without cruise. I was surprised to discover Tesla didn't have dumb cruise.

Heck, I'd be happy if the just included a "resume speed" function after braking. Also, I'd like the cruise speed setting "dot" on the dash to change color when the system decides to slow the vehicle due to someone being ahead of you.

totally agree with adding standard cruise control. No reason it can't be there since that is basically what you have when towing. Also, need to shorten the interval where the adaptive cruise starts radically slowing down, even at closest setting it is still way to soon since vehicle ahead is still at least 4 -5 car lengths ahead yet. At closest setting shouldn't slow down until about 2 car lengths or so it would seem from my experience with other cars

When the vehicle starts slowing down for a car ahead of them is something that is a personal preference, and so no ASDS can account for every user's style. When I had my Tesla I always thought Autopilot started slowing down way too late, while my Gen 1 R1T is a bit closer to my personal driving habit - maybe a little bit too soon but not dangerously so.

I was brought up with standard/dumb cruise control when I learned to drive, and looking back it's amazing at just how unsafe it was... glancing away for even a second or two can end very badly at highway speeds. Radar-assisted cruise is superior for sure.

Yes! Regular cruise. I have had my adaptive cruise react to an on coming car on a curve practically causing an accident!

I'm sure the answer to that is "it will get better" - but probably not for Gen 1 and definitely not when the sensors are blocked.

I hate it too, but I doubt they will ever give us "old school" dumb cruise.
