My only complaint is having to take my ID4 to the dealer to have the update done.
Other than that though, the ID.4 isn't really all that bad of an EV. My sister just crossed 50k miles with hers.

Got a pre-release of OS/2 ... will let everyone know how it goes. Still looking for a 3.5" floppy drive to complete the install!

1) Both can be done simultaneously.

2) It’s been shown they do have at least a general understanding of activity within the online platforms.

3) If we can’t raise valid issues or concerns for discussion in these forums, what even is the point?

Again, I remain optimistic about OS2. Let’s hope it’s a net positive!
You are arguing with someone who rarely adds anything to the discussion but snark.

Just like all previous updates....don't do the update if you are away from home, need your vehicle sOOn, and not able to plug in. Even better, turn off "auto updates" and disregard the notification that your update is available for a few days and check back here to see whether all is good or the world is ending before accepting the update. That alone should save a lot of headaches and anxiety. After a few days you'll either get the update knowing what to expect, hot fixes will be forthcoming as needed, or you can continue to push it off.

I received my previous update while my car was parked for a week in the airport parking lot. Everything seemed to be working fine when I got back to the states, thank god. Would have been a real bummer otherwise.

I'd love to be excited about this one but it's just a re-skin. The only "quality of life" improvement in OS2 is being able to swipe the music pane to the near side of the screen, at least as far as I can tell. But you pay for it by having to re-learn where everything is lol. Hopefully there's some good bug fixes or a new media app or something rolled in (Amazon Music seems a likely choice) so it doesn't feel like another wasted OTA.

OS2 is a complete rework from the ground up. Hopefully they've re-implemented all of the bugs you've grown to love.
It would be nice to know this - I feel though that `OS` is probably not being used in the technical sense here, but its mostly a new UI (and perhaps android automotive version - which to be fair would count as a new infotainment OS), is there any details of any internal changes?

Building on @srkz - there should be a strong client <-> server(s) separation between the UI and backends - so the new appearance really doesn't really say anything about the rest of the stack in isolation.

You guys are spoiled rotten. Come drive my Sierra EV for a few days and you will sing the praises of Rivian software and updates.

To be honest I'm sitting here going "Oh so THAT'S why shit isn't getting fixed."

That plan's been in the works for a long time. It makes some sort of sense for them to try to backport the software they created for the R2. For one it means they get to kill support for the original R1 software and second I'd imagine they learned numerous lessons since 2018 that probably couldn't be applied without rewriting the thing from the ground up.

Though I suppose it was always inevitable since going forward it wouldn't make any sense for the R1 to have a visually different operating system. The real question is if it's just a facelift for marketing purposes or if they really have rebuilt the thing for the R1 from the ground up.

Every update says it's faster but it's not a Gen 1. Why can't they keep my default camera view after EVERY SINGLE UPDATE? Is it really that hard to preserve the camera view? Why does it reset every friggin update to the bird view that I could give a shit about with these potato cameras.

I am not expecting any major issues. It will take a few days to learn where everything is, if you have an R2 it should be easier. This is probably one of the times we want to read the manual once it is released in support center while we wait for the release.

I have a 10 year old Tesla, it had two UI changes in the time I have had it. One was pretty major and it took a little longer to adjust to where things were moved. Nothing was removed it was just a new presentation layer.

Since Rivian is on a 2 month update cycle now, we won’t see this for R1 until end of October. Hopefully they include some new Halloween features with the next software release. For the G1 honestly all I can hope for is a couple new locking sounds.

Might be sooner.

There were 2 releases this year that went 2 months (2026.07 and 2026.23), the rest were 1 month. Week 31 is July 27th so not out of reason we could see it early September.
