2025 Rivian R1T - Large. Delivered on November 23, 2024.

Ok, this is getting ridiculous. 4 pages, and not a single comment about how OS2 will differ from OS1 on R1s, other than "they're pretty significant" (although the IBM OS/2 comment made me chuckle). Can we please leave the complaining to another thread? Or just start one where you can go in and vent?
Hello!

What I remember from Jose at RivianTracr is that they are retrofitting the operating system currently used in the R2 for the R1 vehicles. If you have seen the R2 center console, that's what we are going to be getting, and that is rather significant. Jose went on to say that the upgrade will be in late 3rd quarter of this year. Now it looks like it's really in the pipeline.

When I test-drove the R2, I really like the ability to move the layout around. It was easier to see things that I usually have to search for. I am looking forward to that functionality in my R1T.

I get why they are doing it; much easier to only have to code for one format and not two, and the new format does seem friendlier.

I really hope the built-in RiDE service menu is still there and has expanded functionality.

My main wishes for OS2 are pretty minor:

1. Have a 0.5s debounce on the momentary turn signal. Way too many signal-left when I mean to cancel a signal-right.

2. Complete the auto-turn-signal a second or so sooner, so I'm not done with a lane change and sitting in the center of the new lane with my turn signals still going.

3. Make the climate Fan control more accessible. Sometimes it takes 3 taps to get to the Fan, whereas I feel it should always be on-screen. There's too much useless stuff on the climate screen while driving (like climate schedule and pet mode, which you can't even tap).

4. Don't have my driver display map view disappear for autonomy. If you insist on doing that, automatically pull up the left carousel map.

Any over/under on any of this happening?

You can cancel a turn signal by tapping again in the same direction. Tap up (right) again to cancel a right turn signal - no chance of accidentally triggering a left turn signal.

That's been suggested to me before has always been iffy. I've definitely tried tapping in the same direction and had nothing happen before.

In my R1T right now, all I have to do is tap and bring up the whole HVAC menu, then fan speed controls are at the bottom left next to the temperature...

Sometimes it's one tap, when the A/C is off and the fan is directly at the bottom of the screen.

Sometimes it's two taps, when the A/C is on and you have to tap the climate and then tap the fan control.

Sometimes it's three taps, when the A/C is on and you tap the climate pill and the rear climate display comes up, and you have to then tap the front seats and then the fan control.

I just want the fan control there all the time, without it being variably nested 2-3 layers deep.

I am hopping this will be on the steering wheel with OS2. With the haptic wheels you can cycle through several things with the right wheel, fan speed and temp are 2 of them. The behavior can easily be mimicked with the R1 buttons and scroll wheel. I do not know if it will be there but I will be disappointed if it is not.

I don't have an R2, but a lot of the different controls for those things are done by pushing the whole halo wheel towards the driver, which we can't do in the R1. Maybe some other way was figured out by Rivian, but it's one less interaction route that R1 has vs R2 in this context.

I almost never have anyone in the back seat of my R1T, so the HVAC screen is always on front, so I've never really had that issue. Totally get what you are saying though, it can be a few extra taps.

Most of the options are pushing the halo right or left, that is like the R1 buttons. You also have the spin and push on the Halo wheels. The only thing that the R1 scroll and buttons cannot mimic is the halo push from behind but that function does not appear to be used that much.

Looking at our R2 there is a lot of the functionality that will easily port to the existing R1 setup if the decide to do it.

Yeah. And even if they manage to get all the existing features in, I want to be optimistic about this, but...given that every update to the existing system inevitably introduces new bugs on things that worked perfectly fine previously, I'm kinda nervous.
This is why I am still not doing the most recent update. Last few have left me with issues. And the things they are updating (for instance anything to do with Apple since I don't have an iPhone) bring other problems with no solutions. Wish there was a way to opt out totally.
