I've owned EV's since 2011. Gas prices go up and down. We don't need to post "worst time to own an EV" when gas prices decrease either.
Price of oil just dropped from $115 to under $90 today. It's now the worst time to own an EV. What am I going to do with all that extra electricity?

Seriously gas prices have been the smallest piece of my ICE vehicle ownership experience since my first car. Largest vehicle for the money is the only thing we worry about. Can't be dying at a stoplight when a kid on their phone rear ends you at speed.

Just wait until there is a price cap placed on gasoline and the pumps run dry. Or limited to a 10 gallon purchase. Did this back in the mid 1970s. Go ahead and google some images. Then the fix was to lower the national speed limit to 55 mph. Good grief.

I hope it rises to $5 a gallon. That's enough to push people to EVs but not enough to cripple the economy.

I saw a Mobil at $5.50 on my way home last night.
Saw lots of lines for gas today as many rush to buy before the prices jumps again.

And what about the people who don’t make enough money for that? I’d imagine most of us here make enough money and aren’t really affected but a family scraping by on low wage jobs will struggle with added fuel costs and likely can’t pay for a new EV.

40 mpg gas vehicles have existed for 40+ years. They're typically cheaper than worse economy vehicles. There's a reason Europe and California combined are at 24%+ EV marketshare and the US is at 8%. Cheap gas outside of those regions is the #1 reason.

That doesn’t answer the question at all. A 40mpg vehicle isn’t the EV you said they need to buy. Someone driving a $5000 20 year old Camry can’t afford a new one let alone an EV that typically costs more. Doubling their monthly fuel expenses isn’t going to help them save for a new vehicle.

The drop in price had nothing to do with market dynamics and more to do with market manipulation which has been the MO of this administration. I expect extreme volatility in the coming months as the true impacts of the conflict unfold.

Thanks to everyone for keeping the conversation civil, even with disagreements.

The crisis the US is currently in this month is endemic af a larger problem that has been growing since at least the 1970s and deepened in the '80s, and that is the economic stagnation of the middle class you know so well. The rich and powerful have squeezed so much productivity and wealth out of everything, there just isn't enough for the average family to afford housing, transportation, food, health care, education, let alone luxuries like vacations and fancy toys.

The only silver lining I can foresee is that the last time it got this bad, the citizenry of this county revolted against the robber-barons and eventually ushered in what became known as the progressive era. Perhaps that will happen again. Right now, with AI, climate change, corrupt governance, private equity predation, war, etc. we're on track to such hell, it's unsustainable. If only we could become more pragmatic in our politics and elect problem solvers rather than selfish self-interested, unaccountable grifters, we might get somewhere.

Yep. The reasons are government mandates via higher taxes and regulations.

While this is in the realm of possibility, will not happen under the current conflict.

In the 70s during the oil embargo, US was net importer of oil. Today, we are net exporter of oil and gas. Also Strategic Oil Reserve was created as the result of 70s issue.

I am old enough to remember the mid 70s oil shortage, albeit was a child. I recall the Chevron TV ad with animated dinosaurs turning into oil and how it was a limited quantity, even and odd license place was used to buy gas on every other day of the week as well as the long lines.

Pleeeeeze. Give it a rest. To start by saying keeping it civil, then this"""""

Go look at the real data instead of rhetoric.
